Good afternoon people…
“Taaarde.”
You know that saying, “When life gives you a lemon, make it a lemonade”?
Today, I brought this story here for you,
which involves faith, optimism, and good humor.
It all started here in Uberlândia, with my friend Gabriel,
when in 2011 he was diagnosed with cancer.
Gabriel went through chemotherapy treatment,
only that the treatment was not as effective,
and he had to go through a bone marrow transplant.
Gabriel got a donor and with that, he created a blog
and began to write about what a patient’s day-to-day life was like
who was going through that situation.
The blog is transplantando.org
and with that, Gabriel began to hit some people and such.
Just before the transplant takes place,
came a news that nobody expected:
the donor was denied by REDOME.
For those who do not know, REDOME is the
which regulates all this process, here in Brazil, of marrow donation.
And that’s where I get into the story.
I lived in São Paulo and, suddenly, in my “timeline”,
goes up Gabriel’s face asking for help,
for people to mobilize to find a new donor.
And since he was very close to the transplant,
the chance he did not survive was very high.
Gabriel’s nickname is “sausage”. He is a magrelão, alto, etc.
I’m a civil engineer, and besides, I’m a cartoonist.
So why not pick up the “Scooby-Doo” sausage,
shave his head and join his class
to solve the mystery of the secret donor?
This was a drawing I did and we shared it on Facebook,
and our friends started to change the Facebook cover
and everyone started a move in Brazil
to try to help Gabriel somehow.
I looked at it, I said, “Dude, did you realize what’s going on?
Brazil is mobilizing for your story.
Let’s try something bigger? “
And that’s when, in my hand, Gabriel became a cartoon
and we made an animated cartoon
where he sang a parody of “Show of the Powerful” by Anitta,
which was “Bone Marrow Show”.
So basically it was him singing like it would be
if he could get that donor and stay alive.
This charge, in turn, won the whole of Brazil, in a wave,
everyone supporting, sharing information, etc.,
to somehow save Gabriel.
But, in the midst of this much of sharing, let’s call it that,
this story got a good vein.
She left my hand in Sao Paulo,
came to rest in Gabriel’s hand in Uberlândia;
of the Gabriel, went to stop in Recife, in the hand of Liliane.
Liliane owns an NGO, a superb person, from the ATMO,
“Friends of Bone Marrow Transplant.”
Liliane shared in her network,
that went to Rondônia, in Porto Velho, in the hand of Lu Braga.
Lu Braga is one of those girls that is a bit “scratched”.
She can not see a problem she wants to solve, goes after …
Do you know these people who do not keep quiet, like Candelão? Where’s the Candela?
Like this! That’s right, boy!
And there, in the interior of Rondônia, in Ariquemes,
a friend of Lu Braga received this cartoon.
Elza is the one who received this cartoon.
Let’s talk a little about Elza.
Elza is a normal person, common, healthy,
and she was enrolled in REDOME as a bone marrow donor.
Elza moved from home and it turned out that, in this change,
she did not change her data in REDOME.
For those who do not know, if you are compatible with someone,
REDOME will send you a telegram.
So if she moved house,
this telegram could never have reached her,
if she were compatible with someone.
Just so you have an idea,
for you to find a person compatible with you to do a bone marrow transplant,
the chance is from 1 to 100 thousand people
in all marrow banks worldwide.
In other words, in a “Fla x Flu”, you have to fill the Maracanã –
and oh that the game has to be good for the business to work out –
for you to take a person in the world who is compatible with you.
And it was there that the donor of Gabriel,
which we had lost at the beginning of the story,
it was Elza herself.
Then, for the second time, we managed to find the same donor.
So if you stop to think,
anything involving probability,
take a flash in the head, win the Mega Sena,
people, forget, because we “zeroed in”, literally …
(Laughs)
That was one thing, so absurd that happened.
And the time she saw was there: the secret donor was Elza herself.
She went to REDOME, updated her data
and as she updated the data: “Wait there, the boy there is dying.
Oh, you need to help him. “
And the hour he saw, this boy was Gabriel.
So, a cartoon that had to travel all over Brazil,
a call, a campaign,
made in another way, using technology, creativity,
ended up saving Gabriel’s life.
So the “Save More One” was born like this, when Gabriel was born again.
Then there is Elza donating, all handsome;
Gabriel on the other side, not so handsome;
but nowadays he is well, he is healthy.
It has 100% of Elza’s cells, so it almost became Elza.
(Laughs)
Every now and then he watches movies, he cries.
He was kind of emotional, a little weird …
His wife does not complain, but we do not know, right?
And, as the application, as everyone else has said here, Tinder,
We do not save more. One does this,
(English) unites compatible ones.
What we do?
We get people who can give
and connect with people who can receive.
It’s all very beautiful, all very cool …
We found the donor, she went there and donated.
Only then, we discovered the second part of the problem.
Aside from finding the donor compatible,
in quotation marks, was still a little quiet.
The problem is as follows:
the number of blood bags
that a person who is undergoing such treatment
You need to stay alive,
because of the number of exams she is doing,
on account of the number of transfusions, etc.
So, I promised Gabriel that, if he came out “alive” from this story,
I was going to call some friends.
and we were going to create a network that would replicate Gabriel’s story.
As he left it alive, I had to pay my promise.
So that’s how we created the One More Hail,
the first social network of blood and marrow donation in Brazil.
So what does the Most Save One today do?
It connects blood donors throughout Brazil
with people who, in some way,
they can not have that number of donors.
Raise your hand here who has had someone hospitalized and who needed blood.
Oh, there’s a galley.
You know how hard it is to find someone to give.
You have to call your cousin, the neighbor, the dog, bother everyone.
So, what do we do?
We join the people who are willing to donate,
to donate to that person, right?
And with that, we have already replicated the story of Gabriel,
which, in this case, is the bone marrow transplant,
18 times in that one year and little of Save Another One.
So there are 18 people
which we have already helped to find with a bone marrow donor,
or helped in the process to happen that marrow donation,
out the countless bags of blood that are donated by the net every day.
We are in the whole of Brazil, in all the states of the country.
There are more than 200 campaigns, etc.
So, Save More One does this.
The day someone needs a bag of blood,
you connect …
The lemon turned into a lemonade
and nowadays, we replica this story to the whole world.
Inside the network, what happens?
We have the embodiment of the cause,
because what was the problem?
Why did Gabriel’s story work?
and sometimes Zezinho’s story was not right?
The question is …
just as people watch in the National Newspaper, William Bonner there, at the end of the newspaper:
“The Hemocentro Regional de Uberlândia is with the empty stock” …
From the beginning, since the world is a world, I think, we listen to this story,
and this does not mobilize the population to donate blood.
What did we notice?
“Gabriel, you put your face there in history.”
Understood? There was a story behind it.
Your friends, when they look at that story, are mobilized
because you will not let the boy die.
Same thing: your mother needs blood, you do anything to help.
We discovered that, by customizing the cause,
we were able to increase the effectiveness of this network.
So, inside the Save More One happens this:
people giving, people sharing information and lives being saved.
This is only possible because of the power of the networks in our day to day, right?
So, nowadays,
the new generations are born increasingly connected, right?
Because of this social network involvement,
people are no longer participants in an action
and they interact directly with the action or with anything else
and, in this way, a very large flow of information is created,
can help a lot of people.
Then, flow is continuous motion,
movement is blood that runs in our veins,
and the blood that flows in our veins is what? It’s life.
So while we can generate this flow within the network,
we will be generating life.
So, in a future that we do not see,
Save One More.
Thank you very much.
(Applause)
