DATES & YEARS in British & American English

Hello everyone again in learning English with Lucy.

Today I will correct the error

Many of you do.

I will tell you how to write and write dates correctly.

Now, the main thing that confuses people, is the difference

Between American dates and British dates.

Americans say the month first,

Then today,

Then the year.

As for the Bartans, they say today first,

Then the month,

Then the year.

If this is the main difference

I say the date of my birth is on June 10, 1994

Americans say June 10, 1994

Now another mistake people make is that they confuse the original numbers with the ordinal numbers

The following are original numbers:

One,

Two,

three,

four,

five.

Then, we have ordinal numbers:

the first,

The second

the third,

the fourth,

Fifth.

Do you see the difference?

Number by number

ordinal

Now, the abbreviation of ordinal numbers is as follows: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th.

And so forth.

We will always use this format when writing our dates

It is very rare to see an unordered ordinal number on written dates

This is just a waste of space.

Like many things on this planet.

Another mistake is that students often forget

We start writing months with a big letter.

Make sure you understand how to pronounce the months of the year

If you have any doubts about how to learn pronunciation you can watch this video

In the card above.

January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December.

Which month is your favorite?

They hung down and told me why.

if,

This is how you write history.

In the English language of the 10th of June 1994

And in the American June X 1994

Now, did you take care when I read the history of the Bowl?

It is written 10th June 1994

But I said (the) 10th (of) June 1994.

Therefore, you do not need to write the and of but you need to say it

If you say: My birthday is June 10th 1994 “

Looks a bit weird and unnatural

So I wanted to say “my birthday is the 10th of June 1994”

In American English this is not necessary.

My birthday is June 10, 1994.

Now, another thing tends to be really confusing is how to say years.

With the pre-millennium years (1994)

We know that we divide it into two parts:

18, 25,

10 66.

66 10 for example

When we go beyond 2000 things start to be more complicated

There are two acceptable ways to say dates:

You can say twenty and then number

Although, with the years before the two thousand and ten, you want to say

O9

We’ll say twenty o eight, twenty o nine, twenty ten

Otherwise, if you want to say twenty nine, you will be like

Number 29.

And therefore,

You should say twenty o nine

I prefer to say the whole number. I love to say:

Two thousand and seventeen

The important thing to remember is (and)

It is very important that you include (and) when the date starts in 2000

Two thousand and one (2001)

Two thousand and ten (2010),

Two thousand and seventeen (2017)

Now, have you heard me say n, n?

I just add a clip and say n, n

Two thousand and one (2001)

Two thousand and seventeen (2017)

So I use the voice of Chua

2017,

Alvin and Twelve (2012)

So, here you are!
