How To – chop butternut squash, with Jamie Oliver’s mate Pete

00:00:00I’m going to show you how to cut up a

00:00:02butternut squash very first thing you do

00:00:05before you’re near the squash is make

00:00:07sure that underneath your chopping board

00:00:09is a damp piece of cloth or kitchen

00:00:12paper that stops the board moving when

00:00:15you’re working on it very important so

00:00:18the first thing take your squash and a

00:00:20sharp heavy chopping knife and chop the

00:00:24end off turn it around and chop the

00:00:28other end off and then chop the squash

00:00:32in half at the middle here make sure

00:00:35that your fingers are way out of the way

00:00:37of the noise at all times there’s your

00:00:44two powers of spot next thing you do is

00:00:49chop them in half vertically down the

00:00:51middle bottom half it’s got a lot of

00:01:03seeds in it so we need to scoop those

00:01:06out so we do that with a spoon like that

00:01:12let’s create the seeds and any sort of

00:01:17loose bits like that

00:01:37okay

00:01:39and she squashed basically prepared no

00:01:42next step its turn the pieces over place

00:01:46them flat on the board where they’re not

00:01:48going to move and then again making sure

00:01:51your fingers are well out of the way cut

00:01:53across into chunks for roasting and

00:02:09there’s your squash ready to roast
