Chopping a carrot – Jamie Oliver’s Home Cooking Skills


00:00:00right next kind of chopping is using a

00:00:02big knife and this is how you would chop

00:00:06something like a carrot up so I’m going

00:00:08to take the end off the carrot pull them

00:00:12away and what I want to do is cut it

00:00:14into small chunks so I’ll cut it first

00:00:16length ways like that length ways again

00:00:24and now I want to cut it across into

00:00:28small chunks so what I could do is this

00:00:33you know and I’ll get there in the end

00:00:35but the fastest slickest way of doing it

00:00:37is to do something called role chopping

00:00:39now for this is this kind of movement

00:00:43now notice that the end of the knife

00:00:45doesn’t actually leave the board it’s

00:00:47always in contact with the board and

00:00:49this knife is the one that moves down

00:00:51now it’s not a guillotine like this it’s

00:00:55not just a straight up-and-down there’s

00:00:57a bit of movement so as you push the

00:00:59knife down you push it forward like that

00:01:03so these fingers are tucked in as before

00:01:09knife on the tip of the knife on the

00:01:11board down and forward down and forward

00:01:15like that the more you practice that the

00:01:19faster you’ll get
