Overcoming low trust in your company – Ask Evan

00:00:11another edition of ask Evan in today’s

00:00:13video I’m going to answer question from

00:00:15what my readers wissam who was asking me

00:00:17I’m a currently system analyst nothing

00:00:20related to human resources I can feel

00:00:22the low trust levels in my organization

00:00:24between co-workers and sometimes

00:00:26employees in a management what’s the

00:00:28impact that load trust in an

00:00:30organization and what can we do to

00:00:32change it so what Sam first of all I

00:00:34want to congratulate you for taking an

00:00:36interest in the business that you

00:00:38working on a lot of people they felt low

00:00:39trust levels that just jump off and

00:00:41wouldn’t want to try to improve it they

00:00:43may be go look for another job so that

00:00:45comment you be trying really hard to

00:00:46keep you there because you’re trying to

00:00:47make the business better so in terms of

00:00:50the impact of low trust the two biggest

00:00:52things that I see is one decreased

00:00:54productivity so if your bosses and trust

00:00:57you he’s always going to be watching

00:00:58over your shoulder making sure you’re

00:00:59doing everything exactly right exactly

00:01:02as they want it and sometimes they’re

00:01:04going to try to do things themselves

00:01:05because they don’t trust you to be able

00:01:06to do it so there’s a big drop in

00:01:08productivity because you’re too busy

00:01:10watching each other instead of just

00:01:11worrying about what you’re supposed to

00:01:13focus on the second impact that I think

00:01:15of load trust is when you have really

00:01:19low morale in the company so hit your

00:01:22bosses and trust you right if you’re

00:01:23your person right in front of you

00:01:25doesn’t trust what you’re doing you’re

00:01:26not going to be really happy working

00:01:27there right if you don’t trust the

00:01:29people who are working under you then

00:01:31you’re also probably not gonna be really

00:01:32happy working there so you want to work

00:01:34at an organization where everybody does

00:01:36trust each other so people going to

00:01:38start looking for other jobs the morale

00:01:39is going to be really bad if there’s low

00:01:41trusted and organization what can you do

00:01:44about that so two things one you don’t

00:01:47know if you’re managing people yet or

00:01:49not for the people who are above you you

00:01:51have to earn their trust so think about

00:01:52your boss for them to trust you you have

00:01:54to earn it you can’t just say hey trust

00:01:56me I’ll get it done when people say

00:01:57trust me you know you don’t really tend

00:01:59to want to trust them so you have you

00:02:01have to earn it right Trust has to be

00:02:03earned so whenever they give you a

00:02:04project try to go above and beyond do it

00:02:07faster than they expect do it higher

00:02:09quality than xpect think of other ways

00:02:11to make the project better

00:02:12just what your you’ve been assigned and

00:02:14you’ll be the one on your team that

00:02:15everybody trusts because you always do a

00:02:17really good job so you have to earn that

00:02:19and think of ways that you can always go

00:02:21above and beyond to earn their trust in

00:02:22this if you have a business it’s the

00:02:24same thing to earn the trust of your

00:02:26customers can’t say hey trust me you

00:02:28have to prove to them that you’re going

00:02:30to over-deliver on expectations you

00:02:32deliver it faster cheaper better then

00:02:34you said you would and you’re going to

00:02:36earn a lifetime of trust from them if

00:02:39you’re managing people and you worried

00:02:40about earning the trust of the people

00:02:42below you show them trust first but if

00:02:45you can show that you trust them they’re

00:02:47going to want to trust you so try not to

00:02:49be a big micromanager I try not to

00:02:51breathe down their necks and really push

00:02:53them on timelines yes you have to get

00:02:55their job done but try not to be

00:02:56overbearing to the point where they feel

00:02:58like you don’t trust them if you show

00:02:59that you do trust them then they’re

00:03:01probably going to work even harder

00:03:02you’ll probably be surprised by how hard

00:03:05they were and they’re going to start

00:03:06trusting you as well and it’s going to

00:03:08help the entire company so I hope that
