00:00:08hi I’m Evan Carmichael and welcome to
00:00:11another edition of ask Evan in today’s
00:00:13video I’m going to answer a question
00:00:14from one of our readers Lawrence who is
00:00:17busy drafting the Constitution for a
00:00:19nonprofit organization that is gonna
00:00:21start very soon the primary objective of
00:00:24the organization is to create a Center
00:00:25for the community and Newton particular
00:00:27and he’s trying to organize career
00:00:29exhibitions assists schools and
00:00:30communities and getting motivational
00:00:32speakers for events and taking part in
00:00:35initiatives to alleviate illiteracy
00:00:36unemployment and crime and he’s try to
00:00:38raise money and find donors and that’s
00:00:40his mission and he’s asking for my
00:00:42advice on how to help them get started
00:00:43so Lawrence is great to have big
00:00:46ambitions and goals for your
00:00:47organization I think one of the best
00:00:50things you can do is start small stay
00:00:52focused
00:00:53make one event make it a super success
00:00:56and build on that success often we’re
00:00:58trying to do too many things at once
00:00:59especially at the beginning
00:01:01none of them end up going well so what
00:01:03I’ve encouraged you to do is pick one
00:01:04thing that you want to focus on so say
00:01:07the motivational speaking get one word
00:01:09of an inspirational speaker to come for
00:01:11one event and make it a huge success
00:01:13then you can use that momentum to start
00:01:15doing other events and other activities
00:01:17and build some momentum and credibility
00:01:18for your new organization so in terms of
00:01:21fundraising for the one event think
00:01:23about the motivational speaker himself
00:01:25or herself they might have connections
00:01:28to help you raise the money for that
00:01:30event they might be willing to donate
00:01:32their time to it as well you might find
00:01:34local business people or parents we’re
00:01:35willing to support this one initiative
00:01:37you might be able to get the kids to go
00:01:39up and help raise some money to bring
00:01:41this figure to come in it’s a lot easier
00:01:43to focus everybody’s efforts on one
00:01:45specific cause that makes a lot of sense
00:01:48then for an overarching
00:01:50huge goal that people might not have a
00:01:53connection to yet so I try to focus on
00:01:56one thing at a time make it really
00:01:57successful build a lot of momentum
00:01:59credibility for organization you can
00:02:01spin off into your bigger vision and
00:02:04it’s great to have a bigger vision I
00:02:06don’t want to limit you on that I think
00:02:07for all entrepreneurs you want
00:02:09where your where you want your
00:02:10organization or company to be in 10 and
00:02:125 and 20 years down the road but start
00:02:15with one thing at a time do it really
00:02:17well build up momentum and credibility
00:02:20and then use that success to leverage
00:02:22and build your organization forward in
00:02:24other directions so I hope that helps
00:02:27Lawrence if you guys like the video
