00:00:10another edition of ask Evan in today’s

00:00:13video I’m going to answer question from

00:00:14one of my readers clipper who asks hi

00:00:17evan is clipper

00:00:18I would love a bit more detail about how

00:00:20to build that business around the

00:00:21customer PS I have new goal to crop pass

00:00:24with you and shake your hand and thank

00:00:26you

00:00:26well Thank You Clifford for the kind

00:00:28words and if you’re in Toronto I’d love

00:00:29to grab a coffee and shake your hand to

00:00:32answer your question about how to build

00:00:33a business around a customer it’s one of

00:00:35my favorite piece of advice for

00:00:37entrepreneurs because if you can build

00:00:39around the paying customer then your

00:00:41chances of success are much higher if

00:00:43you have money coming in and you know

00:00:44you have a customer who likes what you

00:00:46do is willing to pay you for it so

00:00:48that’s the first step to getting your

00:00:49business started in order to make that

00:00:51happen you need to start connecting

00:00:53whether we’ve had your customers and

00:00:54finding out what their main challenges

00:00:56are so there’s a number of ways to do it

00:00:58but you start by hanging out where your

00:01:01potential customers are hanging out

00:01:03so there’s networking events or

00:01:05different conferences or different

00:01:07meetings that you know your potential

00:01:09customers are gonna be at you want to go

00:01:10there you can also look online there’s

00:01:12an forums or on Twitter or Facebook or

00:01:15LinkedIn groups where you know that your

00:01:17customers are hanging out you want to be

00:01:19there and you want them to start to get

00:01:21to know you as you start talking to them

00:01:23it hasn’t introduced yourself you’re not

00:01:25selling anything yet all you’re trying

00:01:27to do is add as much value to them as

00:01:29possible and try to help them out get

00:01:31them to think hey this guy knows what

00:01:33he’s talking about and can potentially

00:01:35help me then as you start building that

00:01:38relationship with them you ask some of

00:01:41the challenges that they’re facing and

00:01:42then they’ll come up into the course of

00:01:43conversation find out what problems

00:01:45they’re facing and hopefully there’s

00:01:47something in there that you can work out

00:01:48a solution to and you can ask them yeah

00:01:51I understand that’s a huge challenge for

00:01:52you if I were able to help you do XYZ

00:01:56would that make sense for you and as you

00:01:59get to know these people and as they

00:02:00build up confidence with you then there

00:02:03more likely to want to come aboard and

00:02:05work with you and it’s really as simple

00:02:06as that it’s trying to get to know as

00:02:08many people as you can who are potential

00:02:10customers find out about the challenges

00:02:12that they’re facing and try to be as

00:02:14helpful and valuable as possible at the

00:02:15started relationship to develop rapport

00:02:17and to really start to get to know some

00:02:19where their challenges and once you hit

00:02:21on a challenge that you think you can

00:02:22really help them solve work with them to

00:02:24solve that problem and it’s a start of

00:02:27your new business so I hope that helps

00:02:29Clifford if you guys liked the video

00:02:31please give it a thumbs up below and I’d

00:02:33also love to hear your thoughts and

00:02:34feedback if you want to leave a comment

00:02:35and stay tuned for the next episode
