00:00:11another video edition of ask Evan in
00:00:13today’s video I’m going to answer
00:00:15questions from one of my readers Jackie
00:00:16who’s struggling to make Twitter work
00:00:19for the business so here’s Jackie’s
00:00:21question we’ve been trying over and over
00:00:23to make Twitter work for us but it’s
00:00:25been harder than expected not quite sure
00:00:28what to do next so Jackie I’m a big fan
00:00:31of Twitter and I’m going to share with
00:00:32you some of the ways that i use it and
00:00:34hopefully there’s some lessons that you
00:00:36can use for your business as well so the
00:00:38first thing I like to do in twitter is
00:00:39follow my customers and as much as
00:00:42possibly try to get the twitter IDs of
00:00:44our customers on not everybody will have
00:00:46a twitter account but if they do ask for
00:00:48it and start to follow them and then we
00:00:50look for ways to get involved in their
00:00:52lives and be meaningful so for example
00:00:54somebody might post an article that they
00:00:56just posted from their blog potentially
00:00:58that they’re really proud of so we might
00:01:00write back to them and congratulate them
00:01:01on the great post we also look for ways
00:01:04to send them stuff wherever possible we
00:01:06try to actually send our customers
00:01:08brownies every week so we look for an
00:01:11opportunity to Twitter so an example one
00:01:13of our customers posted on twitter that
00:01:16the air conditioning broke down in her
00:01:18office on a really hot day so she was
00:01:21working from starbucks so we sent her
00:01:23brownies we said we saw your tweet and
00:01:24we wanted to send you some brownies to
00:01:26you don’t give me some sweets for the
00:01:28day and she was over the moon excited
00:01:30you know wasn’t expecting anything like
00:01:32that and it’s a great way to be able to
00:01:34connect with your customers outside of
00:01:37your regular business operation so you
00:01:40don’t have to actually send anything to
00:01:41people even just recognizing them and
00:01:43commenting on some other tweets helps
00:01:45you build a personal connection with
00:01:46them and the next time they’re
00:01:48interested in buying 100
00:01:49services though more likely to come to
00:01:52you and spend more money and refer more
00:01:54friends and family because they know
00:01:56when they like you so it’s a great way
00:01:57to start building relationships with
00:01:58customers so as much as possible you can
00:02:00try to follow your customers the next
00:02:03thing that I’d like to use clear for is
00:02:05to share content that I find interesting
00:02:07and exciting so I read a lot of books
00:02:10and blogs and articles and they’ll often
00:02:13post on my twitter feed information that
00:02:16I find interesting that’s helped me grow
00:02:17my business or inspirational quotes from
00:02:20famous entrepreneurs that helped me you
00:02:22know stay motivated want to continue to
00:02:24drive my business forward and that’s all
00:02:26value I’d content that’s not necessarily
00:02:28promoting anything on my site it’s just
00:02:31trying to add value to my readers so
00:02:33things that I find interesting and then
00:02:35people will start to follow you and you
00:02:37get known as an expert for whatever Gary
00:02:39a drink so everything and I post is
00:02:41usually around entrepreneurship so
00:02:43whatever industry you’re in try to
00:02:45become the expert by posting interesting
00:02:47and relevant content on your twitter
00:02:49feed it could be links to content that
00:02:51you’ve created but it could also be just
00:02:54other content that you find really
00:02:55interesting and you think your readers
00:02:57would benefit from let in the last part
00:03:00is we do have some emotional stuff that
00:03:02will put on our twitter feed is a
00:03:03contest we’re promoting or new blog post
00:03:05we put out that we really want to get
00:03:07some attention to and that’s okay to
00:03:08have some promotional content in there
00:03:10you have coupons or contest going on i
00:03:13try to keep the ratio lo so try to add a
00:03:16lot of value and try to connect with
00:03:18your customers as much as possible and
00:03:19then every now and then when you have
00:03:21important contracts or promotions that
00:03:23really want to get out there you have a
00:03:24following if all you’re doing is
00:03:26blasting out promo offers people aren’t
00:03:28really going to follow you and pay
00:03:29attention you just kind of screaming ads
00:03:31at them so you want to add value build a
00:03:33relationship and then when you do have
00:03:35marketing messages they’re much more
00:03:37likely to want to pay attention to it
00:03:38and find value in it so I hope that
00:03:40helps if you have any other specific
00:03:42questions let me know it would be happy
00:03:43to walk you through
00:03:44bit more for anybody who liked the video
00:03:46please give it a thumbs up if you do
00:03:49I’ll create more just like it and it
00:03:51also love to hear your thoughts and
00:03:52feedback if you want to leave a comment
00:03:53below and stay tuned for the next
00:03:55episode
00:04:03you
00:04:06you
