How to prepare a plum – Jamie Oliver’s Home Cooking Skills

00:00:00how to prepare the perfect plum so your

00:00:03life will be a hundred times easier if

00:00:05you pick a plum that’s white so you are

00:00:08looking for one that’s nice and got a

00:00:11bit of giving it’s nice it’s not

00:00:13rock-hard like a bullet like they are

00:00:15when they first come off the trees and

00:00:17bushes but one that’s got a bit of give

00:00:21that one’s nice I’m going to have that

00:00:22one have a feel around and see which

00:00:24ones you like so I’ve got a nice bit to

00:00:28give yep so loads nicer to eat when the

00:00:31nice and ripe and much easier to prep

00:00:34because there’s a stone in the middle

00:00:36that we’ve got to pull out and if

00:00:38they’re under light and they’re really

00:00:39hard it can hold on to the stone and it

00:00:41won’t give it to you and you end up

00:00:43bruising all the fruit and it goes all

00:00:45brown and mushy so also we’re going to

00:00:48learn a nice skill so the best way to

00:00:50cut a plum is you want to keep it in

00:00:53contact with the board so you’re not

00:00:55rolling around all over the place near

00:00:56your fingers and we can move the plum

00:00:59rather than the knife so if I put my

00:01:02knife in there and then I twist the plum

00:01:05I can go all the way around to where I

00:01:09was at the beginning and my knife

00:01:11doesn’t go all the way through because

00:01:12it’s it’s hit the stone in the middle

00:01:14and you can use this little crease that

00:01:17runs down the plum naturally as a

00:01:18guideline of where you’re not going to

00:01:20go so have a go at that keep your

00:01:22fingers out the way I set right down to

00:01:25the stone lets it feel it and then roll

00:01:29your plum round till you’re back to the

00:01:33beginning Bob’s your uncle that’s it put

00:01:40your knife down then you twist hello all

00:01:46you’ve got a nice one right so then you

00:01:49just want to you can if you like me I go

00:01:52straight in with my fingers and pull it

00:01:54out but if you’re a bit more demure you

00:01:56can trace around the edge of the stone

00:01:59with your knife keeping it firmly on the

00:02:02board and then you can just pull it out

00:02:04if it’s a bit tricky

00:02:09so that’s it how easy was that you

00:02:12perfect plums
