00:00:00it is important as a massage therapist
00:00:04to clean and maintain our rocks Tara
00:00:06prior to during and after each use so
00:00:10what we’re going to do first is we’re
00:00:12going to warm up the tissue before
00:00:13applying hot stones we are starting at
00:00:16the trapezius and I’m going all the way
00:00:18down to the sacrum opening up coming
00:00:21back on the flanks around the shoulders
00:00:24like this up on the trapezius pulling up
00:00:27on the occiput perform this a couple of
00:00:30times and this is going to promote a
00:00:34state of relaxation in our client
00:00:36there’s two types of applications for
00:00:39hot stone therapy one of these is
00:00:41placement stones we start with a large
00:00:43stone which we place on the sacrum this
00:00:46triangular section and it provides heat
00:00:49to the entire lumbar area following that
00:00:51we’re going to play stones along each
00:00:53side of the spine along the lunges in
00:00:55this muscle our stones are left there
00:00:57for anywhere from 15 to 25 minutes
00:01:00depending on the needs of the client so
00:01:02what are the red flags or
00:01:03contraindications for hot stone massage
00:01:06anyone who is pregnant below three
00:01:08months probably should not get one
00:01:10people with varicose veins high blood
00:01:13pressure ulcers or any kind of skin
00:01:15disease should not be having a hot stone
00:01:18massage we normally ask our client if
00:01:20they have any medical history that may
00:01:22be an additional contraindication
00:01:24whether they’re taking any medications
00:01:26that may react to heat in this in this
00:01:29particular case I take a stone from the
00:01:32heater I apply some oil on it and they
00:01:35start using it for broad techniques on
00:01:40the back and as I’m working the back I’m
00:01:43leaving the stones in a way it’s a way
00:01:46of massaging the back and then leaving
00:01:49the placement stones all the way up when
00:01:51I’ve covered the entire back leave my
00:01:53client there he relaxes and we’re ready
00:01:56to move to a different segment of the
00:01:58body so what I have in my hand now is
00:02:00considered a tooling storm what a
00:02:03tooling stone is is if you look at my
00:02:06thumb notices similarity between it and
00:02:09this stone
00:02:10most massage therapists have to apply a
00:02:12lot of pressure with their thumbs
00:02:14working if they’re going to be needing
00:02:17into attention and adhesion but with a
00:02:19tooling stone I have the benefit of an
00:02:22extended thumb and I can apply a lot of
00:02:25pressure into one a particular not so
00:02:28this is what we call a foolish place a
00:02:31stone on the hand just like that if
00:02:34you’re one of those people that have
00:02:35cold hands this is one of the ways to
00:02:38prevent the hands from getting cold
00:02:39during the massage because during a
00:02:41massage your body temperature will drop
00:02:43and this is one of the benefits again to
00:02:48hot stone massage this is andy aragon

00:02:52therapists i’d like to thank you for
00:02:54taking the time to watch your segment on
