00:00:00here’s a rare sight in Hawaii an adult

00:00:04albatross on land the lays an albatross

00:00:09with a wingspan over six feet was born

00:00:12to soar they’re creatures of the wind

00:00:15living in the sky and there’s some

00:00:18powerful trade winds here in the

00:00:20Hawaiian Islands to keep them aloft as

00:00:22long as they want they only return to

00:00:25land to raise their chicks the chicks

00:00:27are on a tight schedule in just a few

00:00:30months they have to develop the strength

00:00:32stamina and skill to take flight as you

00:00:36can see this is easier said than done

00:00:40the closer they get to adulthood the

00:00:43more pressure there is on them to fly

00:00:47the fledgling arrow knots turn into the

00:00:50wind and launch themselves down the

00:00:52beach death lurks for those who don’t

00:00:56make

00:01:02the birds that aren’t quite air were

00:01:04they have to plunk down in a gentle surf

00:01:07where tiger sharks are waiting for them

00:01:12the young bird tries with all its might

00:01:15to mimic its parents and get airborne

00:01:27tiger sharks consume 10 percent of all

00:01:30the albatross young in this colony this

00:01:37drama plays out every year and the

00:01:43Sharks don’t always win

00:01:45in fact sometimes the shark gives the

00:01:49albatross the inspiration to fly amazing

00:01:53what knowing you’re about to be evil can

00:01:55do for your motivation
