00:00:09the city is home port to half a dozen

00:00:12professional teams including one time

00:00:14national champion miss Elam plus team

00:00:18Elam is a family affair fathers fan and

00:00:22Sons Eric and Tom race their boat miss

00:00:25eel and the brothers design and build

00:00:29boats in their own shop hydroplanes like

00:00:33miss Elam are lightning fast because

00:00:35they are designed to fly through the air

00:00:37barely touching the water for a Seattle

00:00:40boy racing line is a dream come true

00:00:43growing up in Seattle hydroplane racing

00:00:46was everything when you were kids here

00:00:48and then unlimited hydroplane racing was

00:00:50the pinnacle of motor sports in Seattle

00:00:52but you know as a kid of my age I don’t

00:00:56know anybody that wouldn’t want to run

00:00:58unlimited hydroplane it’s just it’s

00:01:00awesome the team’s philosophy is simple

00:01:04I’d like to say winning isn’t everything

00:01:07but I got to tell you winning is

00:01:09everything and that’s that’s what drives

00:01:12everything it’s just a pure will to want

00:01:15to win okay all right there now it’s

00:01:18like the boom all the way in second

00:01:19place is the first guy to lose a key to

00:01:23the team’s success driver de Ville walk

00:01:26one of the most successful racers in the

00:01:29sport the motorsport today it’s all

00:01:31about relationships and communicating

00:01:34the team that can communicate together

00:01:37and keep about running you know under

00:01:39adversity as a team that’s gonna win in

00:01:41the end team e lam is fighting for the

00:01:44top spot in the standings and is busy

00:01:46preparing for its next race

00:01:50this week’s problem the engine the most

00:01:53critical component of the boat miss Elam

00:01:56uses chinook helicopter engines to reach

00:02:00speeds of over 200 miles per hour each

00:02:03engine costs 125 thousand dollars and

00:02:07can take ten weeks to adapt from

00:02:09helicopter to hydroplane because of the

00:02:12wear and tear of racing the team must

00:02:14have more than one engine ready at all

00:02:16times with the next race just days away

00:02:20team alam is down one engine and

00:02:23scrambling probably no one has really

00:02:26had a good night’s sleep in about three

00:02:28weeks we have been working around the

00:02:30clock we’ve been working to just just to

00:02:32the point to get a few hours of sleep
