00:00:04work super hard so what is super hard
00:00:07mean well when my brother and I were
00:00:10starting our first company instead of
00:00:12getting an apartment we just rented us a
00:00:14small office and we slept on the couch
00:00:17and we showered at the YMCA and we’re so
00:00:22hot up we had just one computer the
00:00:24website was up during the day and I was
00:00:26coding at night seven days a week all
00:00:29the time work hard like every waking
00:00:32hour that’s that’s the the thing I would
00:00:34I would say if you’re particularly if
00:00:36you’re starting a company if somebody
00:00:37else is working 50 hours and you’re
00:00:38working a hundred you’ll get twice as
00:00:41done as much done in the course of a
00:00:42year as the other company if you’re
00:00:47creating company or if you’re joining a
00:00:48company the most important thing is to I
00:00:52is to attract great people so either be
00:00:55would join a group that’s amazing that
00:00:57you’ve really respect or if you’ve
00:01:00building a company you’ve got to gather
00:01:01great people I mean all the company is
00:01:02is a group of people that have gathered
00:01:04together to create a product or service
00:01:06and so depending upon how talented and
00:01:09hardworking that group is and the
00:01:11greeter which they are focused
00:01:12cohesively in a good direction that will
00:01:15determine the success of the company
00:01:17so do everything you can to to gather
00:01:20great people if you’re creating a
00:01:22company
00:01:25and I’d say focus on on signal over
00:01:30noise a lot of companies did get
00:01:33confused that they spend money on things
00:01:35that don’t actually make the product
00:01:37better so for example at a Tesla if
00:01:42we’ve never spent any money on
00:01:43advertising we put all the money into
00:01:47R&D and manufacturing and design to try
00:01:50to make the car as good as possible
00:01:52before for any given company just keep
00:01:56thinking about are these efforts that
00:01:58people are are expending are they
00:02:00resulting in a better product or service
00:02:02and if they’re not stop those efforts
00:02:07and then the final thing is is to sort
00:02:11of is don’t don’t just follow the trend
00:02:13so you may have heard me say that is
00:02:17good to think in terms of for the
00:02:19physics approach who first principles
00:02:21which is rather than reasoning by
00:02:23analogy you boil things down to the most
00:02:26fundamental truths you can imagine and
00:02:28you reason up from there and this is a
00:02:30good way to figure out if if something
00:02:34really makes sense or if it’s just what
00:02:37everybody else is doing it’s hard to
00:02:41think that we can’t think that way about
00:02:43everything takes a lot of effort
00:02:46but if you try to do something new it’s
00:02:48the best way to think and that framework
00:02:50was developed by my physicists to figure
00:02:54out counterintuitive things like quantum
00:02:57mechanics so it’s really a powerful
00:03:00powerful man
00:03:09now is the time to take risk but as you
00:03:13as you get older your obligations
00:03:14increase so your and once you have a
00:03:17family you start taking risk not just
00:03:19for yourself but for your family as well
00:03:21it gets much harder to do things that
00:03:24might not work out so now is the time to
00:03:28do that before you before you have those
00:03:31obligations so I would encourage you to
00:03:33take risks now do something bold you
00:03:36want to regret it
00:03:37thank you
