When I was 56 years old I received a cancer diagnosis for the first time
They said it was easy to treat
Then the second diagnosis came quickly to revenge and then I was 68 years old,
It was in the fourth stage and widespread,
It was predicted to be kept alive for two months.
It was not easy to cure.
They wanted to give me four types of chemotherapy, 24 hours a day,
They removed part of my stomach and then gave me more chemotherapy.
As I learned, my life was likely to end.
I have already seen my grandmother, my mother, two of my sisters die of cancer,
I saw what happened to their bodies.
I have vowed not to let this happen to me.
I can say that the doctor wanted me to stay seated and listen to him,
In proportion to my age, and to remain calm, and do what he asks me:
But I did not allow the cancer or the doctor to dictate to me
How to live the rest of my life.
No, this is not my nature.
I said, “I need more opinions,” and I was right.
Because after interviewing several doctors,
Only after my visit to the fourth or fifth doctor.
Experimental therapy came that saved my life.
Then I found my voice.
Because of my entomological and experimental therapy
I am able to be here tonight
I am 82 years old to tell you my story.
(Cheers) (Applause)
Wait, this is not the best part.
(Laughter)
I was able to be here tonight at the age of 82
To tell you my story after 14 years.
You know it’s different now.
Is not this the right time, for me and you to look at aging differently !?
I never thought I’d get so old, just like you.
But here I am, at a crossroads in my life, I wonder about this
Things are different now we eat healthy, we know how to eat healthy.
We know how to grow our bodies and our minds.
We have options, we have medicines and cure available to us
Which we have not had before.
We are very lucky.
You know that things were different during a growing period.
We were told to look beautiful, to get married early,
To have children quickly, and to remain silent.
Well, I can do three of the four.
(Laughter)
As you know, I could not keep my mouth shut.
But I got married when I was 19, and I gave birth to my 23-year-
I thought I would stay young forever.
But now I am in the midst of this aging
Things differed,
I want to look at aging differently.
We do not have to stop exercising at age 60, 90, or 80.
We can go to the gym, which I love:
We can practice yoga, we can go to play tennis or golf.
I still love hiking in the mountains,
Maybe I do not have the ability to climb to the highest peak as I used to,
But I can climb far enough to hear the androfen ringing in my ears.
I drink green juices, eat turnip and quinoa,
Not only because it’s about it, but because it makes me feel strong and healthy,
I like this feeling,
It makes me feel happy.
Of course eating a plate of chocolate with almonds makes me feel happy too,
(Laughter)
That’s another story.
We have believed women for centuries
That we have to worry about wrinkles,
And that we lose our strength and beauty in advancing age.
But this is madness,
Because our strength and beauty are deep within us.
And those wrinkles show that we have lived for extra years.
Those years enable us to inherit what we have learned in our lives
For those behind us.
Those who come after us can consider us teachers
And realize how wonderful it is to age one, and what a privilege.
There are many models of today’s wonderful qualities
Which we did not have when we were growing.
Let’s look at Sen. Dianne Feinstein, and what she does in the Senate,
She is 82 years old.
The award-winning actress Cecily Tyson is 91 years old.
Carmen, a beautiful fashion model, very busy at the age of 83,
More busy than ever.
The always-loved New York fashion designer, Iris Abel,
At the age of 94.
(clap)
As you know, I see it every day when I go to the elderly,
I do not see old people of small size, but I see people go to the ranks of the exercise,
To the lectures, they take a glass of wine by the pool.
I met last month, a couple who were smiling broadly,
I had to ask them what was there.
(Laughter)
They said they had just married.
They were 89 years old.
I do not think she was pregnant, however
(Laughter)
We can not be sure.
But trust me, there is life after the age of 50 much, after cancer.
I remarried when I was 57 years old.
I wrote my first book on cancer when I was 68 years old.
And my second book on cancer immediately after.
And then a book on aging.
And then began to speak in different parts of the country.
At the age of 71, I produced my first documentary film.
At the age of 80, I spoke at the Capitol.
At the age of 81, she became a supporter of aging in Washington DC.
Gili has a second, third, fourth,
Perhaps the fifth of our lives, if we are lucky,
I hope to live all the seasons.
When you live a healthy life, choose healthy choices,
This is called “healthspan” or a healthy lifespan
That means you will live longer
In a healthy manner.
And when you live a healthy life
You can delay the diseases of aging from 10 to 15 years.
Diseases such as arthritis, heart disease, and diabetes.
It is the win-win thing for us and the government
Because if the diseases related to aging are paid,
You can return your money to the economy,
In fact billions of them.
So it is a win-win thing.
So, what I discovered during this trip,
The most important thing I discovered was
The only thing we have lost as we get older
Is the fear of aging.
So, I stand in front of you and I am 82 years old,
Haram Bkabi High,
(Laughter)
Still alive despite my cancer of stage IV,
But I look forward to my future with optimism, and why not?
I have a lot after I want to do,
I just hope
To feel inspired by your hearing of my story,
To look at yourselves in a different way,
And also imagine yourself and you have become a role model one day.
I think what I’m really trying to say from all the above is
Is not it time for me and you not only to change our way of looking at aging,
But we start to look forward to it?
And you know what?
I think you are the group that can.
So I’ll leave it in your hands.
thank you.
(clap)
