¿Estamos locos? No se puede comer de todo | Alicia Baldó | TEDxAlcoi

I’ll get right to the point.

How many of you have ever said

that in order to be healthy and strong we must eat everything?

Raise your hand.

I see almost everyone raised their hands.

And it’s true,

almost everyone internalized this message:

“To be healthy, I need to eat everything.”

Is not it?

But it is not!

From now on, I tell them no.

That this message is false.

It is a council, already quite old,

and is currently unsustainable.

It is probably much longer than half a century

we should not be eating at all.

Technological and industrial advances

have greatly facilitated the production of food;

and this has brought us advantages.

Look, we have more valid food.

Think that these foods so we can conserve until the time of consumption

need industrial processing, heat treatment.

Also, we have a better distribution of food.

Currently, in the same supermarket,

it is possible to buy oranges and gossip, which we grow in our fields.

But also kiwis, which are originally from China,

the sleeves, which came from India,

papayas, lychees …

And this does not surprise you?

And even more, we have foods with a better organolepsy.

And what is this?

These are foodstuffs which the food industry

has improved its color, taste, aroma, and texture.

Let’s take an example.

I do not know if some of you still remember ice cream,

which melted completely just from being removed from the freezer,

as if they were pure ice.

What are the most popular ice cream today?

These are the ones that sell the most.

Yeah, exactly the ice creams that take longer to melt.

They support more.

They are ice cream with a softer texture, more creamy.

Ice creams with the most intense sweet flavor,

which stays longer on the palate, right?

That’s what we want, that’s what we have!

Ice creams with more fats and more added sugars.

And it all had a lot to do with fashion.

See, I’ve brought you some examples.

of what the food industry is capable of doing with us.

Some countries sell these cookies

with burger shape.

For those who like salty,

I found some crabs dissected and very seasoned.

And for those healthy sayings,

there are some strips of dried squid also very spicy.

Pay attention that I said Lula, and a lot of people think

which contains protein, and is low in fat.

In this case, this squid is very salty and eats with hot chocolate.

It turns out that marketing the food industry is impossible to stop.

We have chocolates,

I’ll show you one second.

Green tea chocolates,

chocolates of apple cider vinegar,

sweet potato chocolates,

wasabi chocolate.

Want more?

So, see these pictures!

And now I want you to reflect a little with me.

How many natural ingredients do you think there are in these products?

Almost nothing, is not it?

And they’ll be thinking, “Well, everyone knows these products are not healthy.

True, you are absolutely right, you are not!

But then what happens to the others?

A yogurt for babies from 8 months,

rich in calcium, magnesium, zinc and with 10 g of sugar per yogurt.

A little more than it contains a sugar sachezzle for coffee.

Or a sauce for stew, 100% natural,

made with less than 3% of meat and with almost 2 g of salt per serving.

And here’s the last example:

a small cereal bar for children,

in which they indicate, specifically,

which are made with sugar, sweeteners, with many more things!

And that they are sold in pharmacies.

Look, if we read the list of ingredients on the labels of these products,

let’s realize, how foolish we are;

because they are not deceiving us.

And be clear: we let ourselves be deceived!

Our metabolism is not ready

for food to be based on the ingredients

contained in these supposedly healthy foods,

because they have simple sugars, saturated fats,

industrial greases and an endless number of additives,

in amounts that can cause our body to collapse,

get tired and react to produce a disease.

And this disease I want to translate as obesity, diabetes

cholesterol, hypertension, etc.

The drawing of our body is the best we can have

from an evolutionary point of view.

However, and in Dr. Campillo’s words:

“The diseases that are killing us today

are a consequence of the incompatibility between drawing and how we use it. “

Let me give you an easy example.

Our body and metabolism are adapted to walk, run,

to sit when we are tired,

to sleep lying down.

But when we force him to sit still,

for long hours,

there is a decrease in blood supply to the muscles and joints of the legs.

And that in the end will produce pain, inflammation, disease.

So, the same thing happens with the power supply.

When we force the body to feed, to nourish itself

with foods that do not nourish it, forcing it to function with overload;

our gut, liver, pancreas, arteries, heart, etc.,

resent and fall ill.

And the solution is not to go to the pharmacy and get medicine

for cholesterol or sugar.

Not the solution!

What I mean

is that the human being has developed,

it has evolved much faster than your own body.

Nor does it take great scientific basis.

What is lacking is common sense,

at the time of purchase and consumption of food.

We need this image to become more and more frequent.

To be aware that what we consume leads us to self-control.

And responsible consumption

not only ensures a better quality of life

but in addition,

contribute to the sustainability of the planet.

So the next time you want to give your children fruit

bought in the market per kilo and not packed.

When you thirst and want to hydrate

drink water and not sugary drink.

And when they need the benefits of tea,

do not eat chocolate.

Because we can not eat everything!

Thanks.

(Applause)
