“- You know how I started boxing? – No.

– I speak too loud? – Do not.

– Well my father told me, the poor guy was not very intelligent … He told me, son,

you’re born with little brain, so you’d better start

to use your body, and that’s how I started boxing.

You understand, do not you? – Yes

– Why are you laughing? – My mother told me the opposite.

– What did he say? What is the opposite?

-Said: since you were not born with a good body you will have to develop the brain.

– That said? “

Rocky’s father was not very smart but he knew how to detect the skills

that he had his son.

I am Fàtima, and I have come to talk about talent.

What do we mean by talent?

According to the Royal Academy of Language we have two definitions of talent:

Intelligence and aptitude I’ll take the second.

It is the special ability we have to play a role.

Now that we are clear about the definition of talent, I would like you to raise

hand those who think you have talent.

I’ve seen a lot of doubt.

And I want to know, all of you who are parents or grandparents, if you think that your children,

your nephews or your grandchildren have talent.

Or you do not have children, or you do not have nephews,

or is that you do not believe in his talent.

Well, I come to give you good news.

I come to tell you that you all have talent.

That you all have an innate talent.

If you have not raised your hand it could be that you have forgotten your talent

or you may not have connected with it.

And you will ask me, how do I connect with my talent? Very easy.

Connecting with talent is something that does not cost us effort.

What we are good at. What we do without thinking.

What we enjoy, which is our passion.

What happens that many times, precisely because of that,

As it does not cost us, we do not value it.

Sometimes we have some skills but we think “I’m not going to live this”.

Or “I’m not going to dedicate myself to this.”

Or “there is not a race of this”.

I, for example, will not do anything. Really, nothing will be done.

But it will be done. That is my talent

As a child, already 7 years old, in the schoolyard,

mobilized everyone to organize plays, dances, festivals …

And they listened to me.

At 17, 18 years mobilized all my friends to make parties.

I did do, I did not.

It made them go one to buy the drink, another to put the music,

and we rode a festival.

Today, I run a school, we are 40 people.

I lead a team of 40 people and 300 students.

And that is my talent.

Instead, I have a friend that I admired a lot, because I had a talent

in the hands: it was very good making origami.

And you will say: How can someone earn a living by making origami?

You can always put a post on the Ramblas, but hardly

making origami you can earn a living.

What was important was not origami, what’s important is what skills are there

behind making origami.

There is the ability, first, of concentration,

spatial ability, and fine motor skills.

That fine motor we have, that great skill,

we can transport it in a more useful activity, for example it could be a jeweler,

Or he could be a watchmaker.

My friend ended up being a surgeon.

And you will ask me, now that I have been working for so many years,

Why am I going to develop my talent, do this introspection,

connect again?

Talent is important to develop it, connect with that talent,

with our skills, first of all because it gives us a lot of satisfaction.

It empowers us as people, makes our self-esteem grow,

that we feel good with ourselves.

It gives us security and above all it gives us peace.

How well I did it! I feel so good!

And that peace is worth it.

What are we going to develop talent for?

Well I say that we develop talent because it gives good roll.

And what roll does it generate? What I call the chain of good vibes.

because when you are well, those who are by your side feel good.

You generate good vibes, you relate in a different way.

You have problems but you face them more positively.

Developing your talent does not only benefit you,

but it benefits all those around you.

For me there is nothing more satisfying than seeing a child

absorbed in an activity that he likes.

Try to connect with that, with when you’re a child in those activities,

or if you have children or nephews, when you see them.

They concentrate and forget the world.

And they always try to repeat that activity over and over again.

And it’s because it gives them pleasure.

We’ve all had, when we were born, when we were little,

We all had those skills, but we have been distancing ourselves little by little.

Why do we distance ourselves?

First of all, because in the society that we live we educate in the “no”.

Do not jump. Do not run. Do not get dirty Do not scream.

Of course, the “no” limit us and we are closing the development

of our talent

And then comes what I call the traditional school, or mandatory.

The compulsory school trains us to pass an exam,

to obtain a degree, but he forgets to develop our talent.

The goal of the school is to match us.

It is based on repetition and memorization.

What about people who have no memory and that we are not able

to motivate ourselves in something that we also do not remember?

Two things can happen.

One is the option that I took: look for my life, start copying,

steal exams, persuade my friends to do the jobs …

But if you do not have that talent either, what happens to the person?

Well, he stops exams and what I call arrives

the ghost of school failure.

Because it’s true, we’re very afraid to suspend, and it creates a lot of frustration,

but not only the student, but the whole family.

It generates a general frustration, we are all very bad.

This summer I went to visit some friends and the boy had suspended

and that house was a drama: all depressed, what have we done wrong?

Even the dog was depressed.

And you reflect why it affects us so much.

Total nothing happens to suspend.

It’s that at one point, I do not know at what point, they put a chip in our heads

and we think that if we fail in school we will fail in life.

That we’re not going to make a good living, that we’re not going to be good professionals,

and that creates a lot of frustration.

But I am an optimistic person I always try to give an optimistic message

and I hope you stay with that message,

thinking about it there have always been historical figures or well-known characters

who have been bad students but who have been great thinkers

or that they have triumphed in their profession.

I have brought two examples: one is Bill Gates,

the founder of Microsoft.

How would we live now without Windows?

He explains in his memoirs that he was a bad student, that his parents arrived

to bribe him to pass the exams, to bribe him with money.

And look where it has arrived.

Who would not want to have Microsoft?

The other historical figure we all know is Albert Einstein.

If you read the comments made by their teachers they put you

the creeps: that I was a bad student,

I was too reflective.

Good thing he was thoughtful, if he had not arrived where he arrived.

And especially that he was unable to memorize.

It is said of Einstein that he was dyslexic.

At school I find many parents who come with their children

who have suspended compulsory school and who have also been diagnosed

dyslexia or ADHD or hyperactivity, some of these things that are so fashionable.

And the first thing I do is reassure them.

I tell them: “Do not worry, I’m dyslexic.”

Then two things can happen: or that they run out the door

or to calm down.

They usually calm down, and there I can explain to you that behind

of all these diagnoses only explain the negative part.

but every coin has a positive and a negative side.

I explain the positive part: how dyslexic we have some skills.

For example, we are more intuitive, more creative, we have a skill

which is to see in perspective, see the events in perspective,

see how on the big screen.

And it’s a skill that goes very well, for example, for managers.

And the most important thing for me that you have to know about dyslexics

is that we think in images.

That is why you will see that all my speech is with images, because we think

in images and remember in images.

Then I explain to these parents that we are neither better nor worse.

We simply process the information in a different way.

And how do I explain that way of processing?

I take the example of Mac’s and PC’s, because we all know computers

and we have them very close at hand.

The Mac and the PC in principle would do the same, but they have different

operating systems.

That’s how we are: we have different operating systems.

If a software manufacturer wants this software to work

In both operating systems, you have to adapt the software

to each system.

And that is what the educational system should do: adapt.

What happens that today is not adapted.

So, what would my message be?

Our students and our children do not have the problem.

The problem, and the one that really fails, we are going to transfer the responsibility,

the failure is of the system, which does not adapt to the individual.

So, what do we do now?

We already know that we have children that suspend, that do not pass,

that the system does not adapt.

What do we parents do when our children are suspended?

We react, do not we? And we put energy.

I’m going to spend money on private lessons,

I’m going to take hours, I’ll be at my best with my son to do what …

Ok, let’s invest resources of hours, of time, of energy.

And I ask you: where are you going to invest them?

If we pass it to the terms of a company, it is very clear, right?

Where would we invest our resources?

In a company that has potential, that has growth capacity.

We would not invest our resources in a company that does not have

this potential and that does not have that capacity.

But why in reality do we do the opposite?

Our son suspends math because he has no skills

for math and we put all the energy into passing math,

we even erase it from its activities that are good for it and make it feel good.

Or we blackmail him: “I erase you from soccer if you do not pass math”.

What are we promoting? Your negative part

We are promoting a company that is not going anywhere.

So, what would be the formula?

And I’m not telling you not to do math class.

What would be the formula?

I have brought you the formula, it is what we had said at the beginning:

develop your talent

If we detect their talent we see their strengths, and we empower them

and we make him grow in that talent, he’s going to feel good,

You will gain in self-esteem, you will empower yourself, you will feel strong.

We can even get him to find his calling.

And what are we going to do? Motivate it

When someone is motivated, they feel strong and believe in themselves,

is able to overcome any obstacle and any examination.

And this formula you can write down because surely some of you

he is not a father, maybe he is a teacher, and this formula is for the students.

If you are a businessman and you have a team, what do we do sometimes?

Crush: “You have done this wrong!”

Search your team for these skills and you can motivate a team,

You will have people much more powerful and that will get much better result.

I have brought you a very nice example because it is a real case.

I present Ari, she is the daughter of some friends of mine.

She is dyslexic.

It’s a girl who was very sad, because she was the last of the class,

He felt very bad, with very low self-esteem.

And the parents, who did it very well, did not stop supporting her in school,

but they looked for an activity where she felt good, she would empower herself.

And he decided to make castles, with the risk that implies,

and the parents pushed it forward.

The strength that this girl has won, the power she has, as she says:

“When I’m on top of everything, I’m the queen of the world.”

All this strength, energy and security and that courage that she has learned

making castles, will give him enough strength to pass his exams

and to face any difficulty you have in life.

And ultimately what our children, our students, want

our team, is that we reinforce their successes, what they are good at.

And that in the failures we support them, that we do not sink them.

Okay, yes, you do this wrong, but all this you do well.

And we’re going to help you do well.

If Rocky’s father was not very smart,

and was able to see the abilities of their children,

What are we not able to do?

(Video)

– Can I ask you one thing? – Of course.

– Why do you want to box? – Because I do not know how to sing or dance.

If Rocky, who does not seem very intelligent, seems to have understood

the message and that he is aware of his abilities, you too

You have to be aware of yours.

To finish, I can only ask you one question:

Who of you has talent?

And I hope you raise all your hands now.

Well, we have improved. Thank you.

(Applause)
