Eckhart Tolle’s Top 10 Rules For Success (@EckhartTolle)

“Clock time” is very practical

But it becomes psychological time as the future takes over your thought patterns and consciousness

In the many years that preceded writing “The power of Now” – and that became a success – I was actually a failure

Many people lead a life of almost permanent dissatisfaction

If you are unhappy on a regular basis, you believe that it has a purpose

He is a Canadian of German origin, best known as the author of the book “The Power of the Now”

In 2008, a New York Times journalist named him the most popular spiritual writer in the United States

He has sold nearly 10 million copies of this book in North America

His name is Eckart Tolle. This is my summary of his work in “The Top Ten Rules for Success”

Rule 1 is my personal favorite. Keep watching until the end for another few bonus clips

If there are statements that are of particular interest to you, copy them to the comments below so that you can inspire other viewers

Many people have the ambition to achieve something big or become something big

They ignore the step that leads them to that greatness and respect the moment they find themselves

Because they focus on a point in the future where they will ever be fantastic

Some people believe that I deliver great work

That may be true, but I do not feel personally responsible for it. It is consciousness that connects with my manifestation

However, it is the small steps I take. There is the paper, there is a pen, my presence and the stillness

I do not focus on an idea that I am going to change the consciousness of people.

I am only faithful to this moment, to what is happening now.

That is a white sheet of paper, a pen, and stillness. That’s all.

It is a succession of small moments.

And by being faithful to these small moments something big manifests itself.

Speaking about being busy with the past and with the future; obviously you need an intention and a direction, there is nothing wrong with that.

Making that path is a part of life in this dimension

You can not take life as it comes without doing anything yourself

Well, some people try that, but that does not make them very happy either

It would make your life very unfocused and blurred.

So it’s fine to have intentions and plans

In the short term, such as an appointment with someone the next day. Where would you be if we did not have a concept of time

At a practical level, having a future is necessary

The question is to what extent the future will take you.

Being able to use it for practical purposes is fine

I call that “Clock Time”, that is very practical.

But it becomes psychological time when the future takes over your thought patterns and consciousness, and you are only focused on that

And you will treat the present moment as a means to a goal

Because you need to come in the next moment; constantly being focused on this, but never being present at all

Constant search for fulfillment there

So you are unable to embrace the fullness of the present moment

Or you make an enemy from the present moment

Some people are always unhappy.

There are probably one or two people in your area who are constantly unhappy.

“Tree”

For them there is always something that is not quite right.

Wherever or with whomever they are, after a while they become restless, as if they have to be elsewhere

You will undoubtedly know the bumper stickers with lyrics like “I prefer to play golf” or “I prefer to go fishing”; “I would rather be this”; “I would rather be there”

The spiritual teacher Ramdas, whom I visited in his hometown in Hawaii

Ramdas wrote the book “Be Here Now” in the 70s

He has a bumper sticker with the text “I’d rather be here now”

Then you realize that you are still able to follow your plan

I call that a journey; you know you want to go from one point to another

We do not know whether you arrive at that other point

Maybe you take another turn on the way

But at least you have a certain direction. It is good to have a certain direction in your life

But if you only focus on the goal during your journey

Then you will not make the trip.

Then you can not enjoy it either

While most of your life is a journey

The moments that you arrive somewhere are relatively sparing: the wedding;

Obtaining a few diplomas

The rest consists of the journey

If you can not enjoy the trip, and that’s the step you take now – and that’s the most important thing now –

Of course you know where you are going, but you need to get the most happiness out of the step you are taking at the moment

Because that is ultimately decisive for your life: the step you take at this moment. There is nothing else.

In the many years that preceded writing “The Power of the Now” – and that became a success – I was in fact a failure

In the eyes of my environment

“He’s almost 50, and what has he achieved?”

My mother said: “You have wasted your life, you had so many possibilities”

You ran away from high school, from Cambridge …..

Why did you run away?

My mother – and many others – said:

“his life has failed, he has no job, he has no insurance …. nothing”

“No pension accrual”

“Almost nothing on the couch”

“A failure”

But a few years later sold “The Power of the Now” and became a bestseller

Then I was “A great success!”

If I had derived my identity at the time from what my environment told me

Or what my brain told me if I had listened to it

Then I would have been very unhappy

I did not, so I felt good

Because I did not derive my identity from that anymore

And fortunately, I did not do that when I became a success in the eyes of the world.

I do not want to derive my identity from that

It is a cheap imitation of my real identity

The fulfillment comes from the transformation that causes the work in the lives of people

It does not give me a personal fulfillment

because I do not experience it as the work of a separate personality

A common mistake is to interpret an impulse as a deeper response that arises from silence

Two factors play a role in every decision-making process:

You have the information that is available

and you will have to establish that you have all the facts at your disposal that you need

It may happen that you do not have all the facts at your disposal to make a good decision

At that moment you go inside to find out which questions you can ask

To get more information above water

I now speak in a very general sense: whether it concerns business decisions or very personal ones

In all cases you will have to look at the facts at a certain moment, chart the situation

And sometimes the facts are not clear enough, or you have too few facts

And then you go into silence to find out which questions can be asked

There may be someone available who can provide you with more detailed information

But to ask the right questions you need a moment of silence

The silence may not have an answer for you,

but the first step when you become alert and quiet

is a new question

The most important in decision-making processes

is not that you come with a decision

but that you ask the right question

Who can shed light on what you need to make a good decision

And to get to that question, alert silence in the moment is needed

In that state you listen to your inner self, as it were

And then the question comes up

When I receive a call with a question, a request for one or the other

Often I do not immediately say yes or no,

I usually come up with questions in addition to the information that is available

To which I get the promise that it will be checked

Then I get more information again

Sometimes that is enough to determine whether or not you want to do something

You can find out more quickly if you do not want to do something by simply looking at the facts

Many people lead a life of almost permanent dissatisfaction

Maybe they’re looking for a kind of goal,

or they have given up hope that there is a purpose in their lives

and are mainly to survive, or lead an existence

Or they are caught in the stress of the issues of the day

When people talk about “goal” they usually mean something that lies in the future.

“Where am I going, what am I supposed to do ….”

“What purpose should I achieve?”

And that obviously has a right to exist.

But that is what I call the external goal.

More fundamental than this external goal is something that most people overlook

And that is the realization that what is most important is that you find your inner purpose

Your inner goal is to completely adjust your life to the current reality

So that you are no longer out of step with the current reality

This leads to dissatisfaction, which is a reality for many people

First of all, you will have to go beyond that state of dissatisfaction

You can not achieve that through a goal that lies in the future

You can only achieve the state of satisfaction by unifying yourself internally with the current reality

Your internal goal is then that complete unification with your current state, with where you are and with what you do

Even if that does not match your life goals for the next thirty years

Whatever you do, be complete in that

It does not matter what that is

To be honest with life by being honest with the current reality

It is not that difficult to get out of the flow of thoughts

A traditional approach is meditation.

You sit down once or twice a day, you close your eyes

And instead of allowing you to be involuntarily taken into the stream of thoughts

As usual with meditation, focus on one thing. That can be a mantra, or your breathing (which is a very classic technique)

You can focus on your inner feeling in your body, the sense of life that flows through your body

In short: you take your attention away from thinking

And that is all a revelation: that you are able to focus your attention

That you are not forced to focus your attention on where your ingrained thought patterns want you to focus your attention

They constantly want your attention, every thought says: “I am important, you want attention, come this way”

And the next negative thought, and the next, and the next ……

Compassion for yourself is just as important as compassion for others

I often get questions from people

Who later realize that they have done something they regret

People who realize that the way they have raised their children

has not been very aware

What their children suffered from

Or people who have caused suffering to their loved ones

and now realize that they have acted wrongly

At such a moment you need compassion with yourself

Because no one is able to act beyond his own level of consciousness

At that moment you were in that specific level of consciousness

And you could not ignore that

It may be good to set requirements for yourself

As long as you enjoy that, that can be good

As soon as you lose that pleasure, you have to look out

At that moment you will have to stop and say to yourself

“Something is wrong, because I no longer have any satisfaction with what I am doing”

A lot of so-called unhappiness

is also a childish attempt to change a certain situation

by being as unhappy as possible about it

The underlying unconscious or semi-conscious assumption is that

“If I’m really very unhappy, there might be someone, possibly even God …..

….. who does something about it, otherwise I’ll show him that he is wrong “

“I will show him how bad it all is and then eventually ….”

This is an unconscious assumption that hides behind the unhappiness

Because you believe that if you are structurally unhappy, that has a purpose

It is unlikely that you speak that way, because it is an unconscious belief that you believe works

– Of course that is not the case –

“My situation is changing, if only I am unhappy about it”

“So that God ….” –

– even if you do not believe in God, that is the unconscious mechanism behind this belief that something will happen

Of course the opposite is true: the more unhappy you are about something, the more you will get stuck in it

The way you do something is more important than what you do

You can serve customers in a store

– which in the eyes of the world may be seen as insignificant –

What if that is done with full attention

Where you treat every customer with your full attention

You respect him or her as a fellow human being

You do your best to serve him or her in the best possible way

That is quality

Everyone who comes into contact with you

would then experience a kind of elevation in consciousness

Even with a relatively simple job you can contribute to a better world

“You do not get well by trying to be good ……..

….. but by finding the goodness already present in you ….

…. and allowing that goodness to manifest ….

…. But it can only manifest itself through a fundamental change in your state of consciousness “

If nothing changes in your state of consciousness …..

The ego has many convictions

It says: “I want to be a spiritual person”

“I want to be recognized as a spiritual person”

“I want to be more spiritual than those other people”

“And I’m certainly more spiritual than you are”

So the ego has all kinds of beliefs about what it wants to be

Even the idea “I want to be good”

Because it wants to get a better self-image

But it remains essentially dysfunctional

That is the saying “The road to hell is paved with good intentions”

Because how good your intentions are

if you are still trapped in the ego

it will always bring you into conflict

So you will have to go deeper, beyond the area of opposites, of “Good” and “Evil”

And reach a place in yourself that is not conditioned

Which is without form

Beautifully worded in the Old Testament in the saying: “Be still and know that I am God”

That very short statement contains the complete wisdom of religion

“Be quiet” or: go to that place where the mind is not active

Where you are only conscious, without thinking

That is the level where the Eternal One resides

Thank you for looking and: keep believing or whatever your word is

As soon as you allow yourself to really observe, everything suddenly becomes more lively and less problematic

Because the problematic dimension is between your ears

As soon as you are present in the present, those problems disappear

Strange right? Because the intellect still says to have them

As soon as you start thinking about it, you have them again

But if you do not think about it, then you have no problem

Some of you will dispute that, let me explain

There are situations in your life that are a challenge

And you will have to deal with that

But the only place you can do that is the current moment

And dealing with a challenge in the now is no problem:

You are engaged in a challenge

You look at it

And watching that is important:

you focus your attention on it.

I call that the power of consciousness

And while you look, you are not thinking

Everyone who has achieved mastery in one area or another

Understand what I mean by “looking”

There is full presence

Then you do what you do

It stems from that presence

So: you look and there is no problem

There is a problem if you are mentally stuck in what will happen, which may happen

A problem that you may face next week, but not now

And you go fully into that

Interesting is something I think I have described in “The Power of the Now”:

If you think you have problems, ask yourself:

“What problem do I have at the moment?”

And I also mean literally this moment

And then you have to make an inventory:

“My ex is litigating against me”;

“I lose my house”

“Someone in my circle of friends is sick”

“I can lose my job”

“I have to find a new job”

But: what problem do you have at this moment?

You breathe, you feel the life in your body, you look around

“Actually, I have no problem at the moment”

You will have to admit that there are currently no chances of survival for your problem

That is quite a revelation

That does not mean that you do not have to do anything anymore

You deal with your business as soon as the time has come

Or stronger: the moment you stop to waste your life energy on creating problems

which you can not do anything about at this time

In the middle of the night you worry about your problems …..

will probably not bring a solution

But if you quieten in the middle of the night, and descend into your inner energy field

Instead of worrying about your problems, that is

you leave the area of problems,

to land deep in the current moment

Then there is a chance that you wake up and know what to do

And you can take the right course because you went there

And have not lingered in the worries of the human brain

To come back to your question

If you are not challenged: practice this

If you are challenged

Because of small things that go wrong. It happens.

Things do not always go as you expect

Sometimes you miss the bus

Whether your plane is delayed, or something else is going wrong

That happens pretty often

It seems to belong to life

That is also the reason people go to the movies

Because the underlying structure of each movie ……

And that applies to every movie you see

What happens in every movie can be summarized in three words:

Something

goes

wrong

Otherwise, there would be no film: nothing would happen

There would be no character development

There would be no life

But in your own life you constantly complain about problems

And then you go to the film to see things go wrong

But in your own life you complain about that

Maybe not you, you are probably already out of tune ……..

It is not the intention that things do or do not go wrong

but it is part of the totality of how existence experiences itself

If nothing goes wrong, how can there be development

Because development is only possible if you are faced with challenges

In a good film, the character develops in the course of the story through the confrontation with challenges

In a “bad” film the character does not develop, and the problems are solved by an external factor

At the end the bad guy goes dead

but nothing else happens

So: things that go wrong belong to the way in which existence experiences itself

You can bring awareness into that

So that you do not fall into a state of reactivity all the time if something goes wrong

And you can synchronize directly with it
