Three Dimensions of Freedom
Osho,
what is freedom,
individual and collective?
Freedom is
three-dimensional phenomena.
The first is the physical dimension:
you can be enslaved
physically.
And for thousands of years man has been sold
in the market just like any other commodity.
All blacks who have come to America
are bought as commodities.
Slaves existed all over the world.
They have not been given human rights;
are not really accepted as human beings,
have been inhuman ..
And they are
still being treated as being inhuman.
In India there are still sweaty, untouchables.
A quarter of India
is still living in slavery:
these people can not be educated,
these people can not go into other professions except
as decided by the five-thousand-year tradition
and
thinking like people is impossible … Even touching them
makes you unclean
you need to get rid of it immediately.
Not only just touch the man
but its shadow
even then you have to wash.
So there is physical slavery
as well as physical freedom
that your body
not in chains,
not
categorized as being lower than someone else,
that exist
equality
as far as the body is concerned.
But even nowadays it is not so.
The body of a woman is not considered equal to her husband.
It is not as cheap
how much is the man.
In China for centuries
husband had the right
to kill his wife
without any punishment
because the woman was his property.
Just like you can ruin your chair
or you can burn your house, it is your home,
it’s your chair, it’s your wife.
In Chinese law
there is no punishment for the husband who kills his wife
because she is thought to have no soul;
it is just a reproductive mechanism,
a factory for producing children.
Mohammedans
marry four women,
which is absolutely ugly
because nature keeps balance in the world. There is the same number of men and women,
and if a man marries four women,
then what about the three men?
That’s nothing!
Just forty years ago, when India was liberated,
one of the Mohammedan states in India, Nizam Hiderabadi,
the nizami had five hundred women!
But neither is this
limit.
Hindu Lord’s Incarnation, Krishna,
there are sixteen thousand women.
And at least the women of Nathan were his – he was married to them.
Krishna has taken everyone’s wife
who wanted …
regardless of whether she has children, that she has a husband, that she should take care of them
regardless.
He had the power.
And having sixteen thousand women is so idiotic –
you can not even remember their names!
But it is meant
exactly
why the woman in India is property,
the more you have the better.
And of course the Lord’s incarnation must be allowed
have
the largest number of women
to prove that he has more property than anyone else.
So there is the slavery of the troops
which still continues in different ways.
This is diminishing but it has not disappeared completely.
in general
Freedom of the troops means
that there is no difference between black and white,
that there is no difference between husband and wife,
that there is no difference
of any kind
as far as troops are concerned.
No body is clean,
No body is unclean: all bodies are the same.
But that is
the most basic of freedom.
Then is the second dimension: psychological freedom …
There are very few individuals in this world who are psychologically free
