And now the sutra … long and short night sutra
Excerpt from Yakosan: Direct to the Point of Enlightenment # 4
When a novice monk,
Gao, first called Yakosan,
Yacosan asked him,
“Where did you come from?”
Gao said,
“From Nanyo.”
Sal Yakosan, “Where are you going?”
I love Gao,
“To Jiningling to receive the principles.”
Then Yakosan asked,
“What is the purpose of receiving the principles?”
Gao replied, “to escape from birth and death.”
Yakosan said,
“There are people who do not receive the principles
He has neither birth nor death to escape
Did you know?”
Gao asked,
“Then what is the benefit of the Buddha’s principles?”
Yakosan said,
“This novice monk still has lips and teeth.”
At this, the novice monk bowed and withdrew.
Then Dogo stepped forward and stood in front of Yakosan,
Who said to him,
“That lame novice who just came,
After all he has some life in it. “
Dugu said,
“He is not fully believable yet –
It has to be re-examined first. “
By evening,
Yakonsan entered the hall;
He called,
“Where is the novice who came earlier?”
Then Gao came from the assembly and stood there,
And Yakosan said to him,
“I heard that Changan is very noisy ….”
Then Gao said, “My province is peaceful.”
Yakosan asked, with much joy,
“You have noticed this from reading the Scriptures
Or inquiries? “
On that, Gao replied,
“I did not get them to read the Scriptures
Or inquiries. “
Yakosan said,
“Many people do not read the Scriptures
Or make inquiries
Why do not they get it? “
Gao said,
“I’m not saying they did not get it
It’s just that they do not agree to take it. “
Do not ever think for a moment what I’m saying
About the gin was said by the gurus themselves.
I’m constantly improving.
Now the sutra …
The sutra is long and short night.
I hope
I will be able to end it before sunrise!
