Hello everybody and welcome back to English With Lucy.
Today, we have a short and small lesson,
but I hope to correct an error
I listen and I see that many of you do,
especially students who have Spanish
as a mother tongue
So, this lesson may not be relevant to everyone.
You can see this and say
“Lucy, do you think we are stupid?”
Well no, I started teaching Spanish students,
Because I was teaching in Spain, and I always saw
that they had forces problems with this,
because Spanish does not have the same structure
That English respect this particular issue of grammar.
Your language, on the other hand, may have it.
So, if you watch the video
and he finds it irrelevant,
Every topic on grammar can be relevant to everyone.
Before starting, I would like it
remind you to register to Audible.com

I have mentioned a couple of recommendations,
I strongly recommend the Harry Potter books,
They are fantastic and I have also discovered
You can have the complete collection of Sherlock Holmes
by Stephen Fry, which is one of my favorite comics.
Talk to “Received Pronunciation” (standard English),
has a good pronunciation, speaks clearly.
I have left the link for this collection in particular
Audiobook here too below.
I recommended it in a previous video
And I thought you liked it, guys,
so I thought about referring to it again.
The best of the audiobooks is that
you can practice listening,
but you can also practice your pronunciation,
Because you are feeling a native person reading the book.
And if you also buy the real book,
It’s as if you had had a full “listening” exercise.
In any case, let’s start the lesson.
Today, I will talk about
the difference between is and it’s.
Now, before beginning,
I want to talk to you quickly
about the pronunciation of these two words.
Because I have heard a lot of people saying “iis”, “iits”.
Both are incorrect.
The first letter should be “i”, the sound of a short vowel.
No “ii”, “i”.
Therefore this is the first error to correct.
“i”, no “ii”, “i”.
Stop the voice with your neck.
“i”, “i”.
“ii”, “i”.
OK?
Try to guess what I’m talking about now,
as regards the pronunciation of the two words.
Is.
It’s
Is.
It’s
They end up in a different phoneme,
Although the phoneme is represented by the letter S.
Thus, “is” is vocalized with a sound “zzz”;
“It’s”, it is vocalized with a “sss” sound.
However, “iss” does not exist.
It’s is, is it’s it.
Is, it’s
Now if you apply this to your speech,
You will sound automatically more native.
Now the next error I want to correct
with these little words
It is the repetition of the subject.
Do not repeat the subject,
Spain it’s wonderful.
Spain is wonderful.
Which of the two is correct?
What is the subject of the prayer?
The subject is Spain.
If I say “Spain it’s wonderful”.
I’m really saying “Spain she’s wonderful,”
That means I have two subjects.
I have repeated the subject.
Therefore “it” is not necessary.
Spain, subject, is wonderful.
Now, compare these two phrases:
Today is sunny.
Today it is sunny.
What’s the difference?
What is wrong
None of them is incorrect.
Both are.
Today it is sunny.
“It” refers to time.
Today is sunny.
A slight difference, be careful.
What does “it” mean?
Another mistake I heard from Spanish speakers
is “no is”, okay?
I had had a wonderful, wonderful student, it was incredible.
If you had nothing to do with computers,
I solved the problem, it was incredible.
But it could not be put to the head that it is not “no is”.
ës says “It’s not”, or “is not”.
But because in Spanish you say “it is not”, “it is not like that”,
the brain of some people means in English “no is”,
because it looks pretty similar, right?
“It’s not”, “no is”, “it’s not”, “no is”.
But that is not the case.
If I mean “It is not, it’s not”, for example,
I have to say “It’s not him”,
or “It is not him”.
I can not say “No is him”.
It does not exist.
Now, for some people that may seem basic to you.
It’s hard not to translate things
directly from your own language.
“No”, “no”.
“It is”, “is”.
I can perfectly understand why a Spanish-speaker
would translate “is not” as “no is”,
but let me know, it is not correct,
And if you want to talk and look like a native,
then you need to start saying “it is not, is not.”
She is not nice
It is not good
It’s not fair.
Well, then the aspects you have to do it out
of the lesson today.
Pronunciation.
It’s, is.
It’s, is.
“It’s” is “it is” all together.
Therefore, “is” has no subject, and “it’s” has the subject.
“It” is the subject.
“It” is the subject in “it’s”.
Uh, it’s a difficult subject to explain!
It seems very simple, but in reality it is not simple.
The next point, go very carefully
when the subject repeats.
Do you need to repeat it?
The answer is almost always not.
Spain is different.
Spain is different.
Which one is both?
It is “is” because Spain is the subject.
And now the end point,
With the negative, it’s never “no is.”
It is always “it is not”, “it’s not”, “it is not”.
That’s all for today.
