Look at these English (single) vowel sounds,
However, there are only five vowels in English.
It does not seem to be able to see how to see, is it?
Let us take the letter “e” for example:
The letter “e” in different English words
There are several different pronunciations.
For example, the word “egg” (eggs) has a short vowel/e/.
In the word “she” (her), a long vowel/ee/, the word “cafe,” is also a long vowel but with a bit of spoken language.
There is also a lazy pronunciation for “e”.
The word “eleven” (11) is sent /uh/.
Let’s look at this group of English phonetic symbols.
To understand that these are phonetic symbols,
Not English letters. Let’s look at the first row
The first two phonetic symbols.
For beginners, these two pronunciations are easy because the pronunciation is not accurate enough
It caused some misunderstandings. For example:
The syllable of the word “ea” in the word “beach” is a long vowel “/i:/.
If you send a long vowel into a short vowel,
If you send a long vowel into a short vowel/i/,
It sounds very like the word “bitch” (bitch).
This word is a deaf person, use it carefully.
Another example: the word “sheet” (sheet or bed sheet) and the syllable “ee” is a long vowel/i:/,
But if you accidentally pronounce it as a short vowel/i/,
It’s a bit embarrassing because the word “shit” is a very rude monk.
Do not use it as a last resort. so,
The long vowels and short vowels in English are very important and must be accurately distinguished.
Try to read these short vowels with me/i/
Hit, sing, bit, which (whichever), disc (record).
Long vowel/i:/, meet, eat, beach, sheet, or believe.
Next is the short vowel / /
For example, the word “book” (book)
Cook (cooking), sugar (sugar);
Its long vowel is / /,
These words are pronounced as follows: you, you, too, shoe, who, and computer.
Keep going down. Pronunciation of iphone/i/ and short vowels/e/
It’s easy to get confused.
Egg (egg), ten (10), left (leave the past style), excellent (excellent).
Look at the following row of phonetic symbols,
These words are pronounced below: cat, flat, compact, that.
Let’s go to the middle row.
Let me talk about my favorite phonetic symbol, /,
The lazy pronunciation is one of the most frequently heard English phonetic symbols.
You will hear a lot of words in this tone. For example, the word:
Today, teacher, the (article/then), and around.
Next is the phonetic / /, such as the words: her, word, first, work, bird.
Pay attention to these English words and their spellings
The combination is different, but all use the same phonetic transcription.
Her, work, first three words of different English spelling,
But use the same phonetic symbol.
This is why learning IPA can help you
Spell good English words.
Let’s look at the phonetic / /:
This phonetic transcription is used in the following words:
Or (or), four (4), bought (bought past), perform (execution), saw (seen in the past).
Go to the second phonetic symbol in the bottom row / /
