Alex Morgan’s Top 10 Rules For Success (@alexmorgan13)

She is an American football player and an Olympic gold winner.

She is an attacker at the Portland Thorns FC and the national American women’s football team.

She was the American football athlete of the year and finalist for the FIFA world player of the year.

She is Alex Morgan and here are her top 10 rules for success.

I have played many sports when I was younger

and I held on to football because the 1919 motivated me a lot

My father went with me to the football field every day and that exerted positive pressure on me

and it motivated me to be the best player that I could be.

Football was really my thing and I wanted to make it the American national women’s team.

My favorite goal was against Italy

I scored in the 93rd minute and I think the best in my game is the finish.

Everyone has his or her talent

but it’s about what you do with that talent to make it big.

I am not worried about my future, about what I am going to do in ten years after the football.

It’s about this moment

how I can now contribute to the success of the team.

How can I ensure that I am physically and mentally ready for every match.

So it really is about day to day life and knowing that the future is so uncertain

You just have to be happy with where you are now and have a positive outlook on it.

In the morning, I provide a good night’s sleep, and then in the morning I try to be here

I walk around and it is just a very nice place to start your morning. And so with a positive mentality to go into the day.

Yoga definitely fits in my life in terms of vibration. It is nice to be comfortable with yourself

Stretching has a lot to do with football.

You have to make sure to be flexible and I also like to feel a bit alone.

And keep my mind off football for a while

but at the same time, the reason I practice yoga is that I become even better at playing football.

When I sprained my ankle at the end of October, I did not expect it to lead to this.

And that was the hardest thing for me

I started to doubt myself: why did not I take it a bit slower?

Why did not I pull myself back from the training or the competition?

But you can not look back, you have to look ahead.

It was really hard but now that I see progress, we have just had an MRI scan, that helps me

it mentally helps me to cycle and swim more.

At first I could not do anything at all. Now that I know that there is progress and I am capable of more, I feel much happier

In preparing for every game, the key for me is to be consistent.

I think every athlete is a bit superstitious

and if an athlete denies this, I think he’s lying.

So yes, I do a few things

I always do my sock first and I like to take a nap at the same time

and eat the same things

and I do a lot of visualization just before the game.

I enter a dressing room, put in earphones and visualize myself in the game

When people ask me how I create a balance with things that are not football-related,

I think it’s just … I’ve got more confidence in the last couple of years

with the decisions I make and the opportunities that are given to me

Decisions to go ahead with something or not

whether it is authentic with who I am. Whether it concerns a company that I represent or an event that I go to

or if it is a photoshoot for which I have been asked.

I think it comes down to weighing things up and making sure that nothing gets in the way of what I’m best at

and why I am here. And that is absolutely football.

I think there is no secret to achieving success

I mean, I think Abi has hit the nail on the head

It’s all about hard work

It’s all about taking action and exercising more than your opponent, than your teammates.

It involves preparing yourself mentally every day

It is not to weaken

Use the time and effort

and you can see it at Abi; she has made the effort.

I think that is the reason for her success

But in the end there is no secret why we have become so successful.

I think most attackers like to play under pressure.

Otherwise you would not be an attacker

but I like that excitement.

Sometimes you do not always succeed and that is okay.

As an attacker you have to find the balance

you shoot five times and maybe you score once, but maybe not.

You may get three goals at three times shooting

it is a bit unpredictable. You have to find your own way and have confidence in yourself.

I already wanted to be an Olympic gold winner from the age of seven.

That was a dream that came true.

Who are your role models?

My role models? I watched Kristine Lilly and Mia Hamm

in high school and when I tried to get into the national team.

But I always want to make my parents proud.

They were the two people who came to every game.

They were my biggest fans.

It is not just what I wanted to show them. I wanted to make them feel the passion

and I wanted to let that passion grow with them because this is exactly what I dreamed of.

When I was a small child, when I was watching you.

This is what I dreamed of.

I’m gonna cry

You make me cry, stop

Dream big, because dreams come true.
