Como se sentir rico em 4 Passos | Amanda Aires | TEDxDeVryRecifeWomen

My name is Amanda Aires and I wanted to talk

about how to feel rich in four steps.

Where did the idea come from “How to feel rich in four steps?”

I am an economist and, like the bones of the trade,

I listen a lot to the following questions:

if I’ve already joined my first million,

or how people do to feel rich.

“How do I make myself feel rich?”

And these questions were so frequent that I began to wonder

which meant being rich.

Looking at the dictionary I observed that “being rich” means:

accumulate lots of money,

have many possessions and many possessions.

But it was a concept that did not make me very comfortable,

the concept that being rich is to accumulate money.

I went to ask people,

in this case, to more than 500 people,

what they thought,

how they defined “being rich”.

And the second question was whether they felt rich.

To my surprise people agreed

that being rich meant accumulating wealth

and that people did not feel rich.

Observing these characteristics was that I started to think

what would be the four steps that we could establish

so that people, in fact, felt rich.

And the one step I say to you,

is that we have to work to live and not live to work.

And here I wanted to give two examples that I heard recently.

The first is from a father who came to complain

What were you talking about with the kids?

and asking their children what memories they had of childhood,

When did they play together?

and, to the father’s sadness, the children said

that at no time in childhood did they remember their father together,

that all the memories they had during childhood,

were always associated with the grandmother.

And the second testimony I heard,

which caused me even more sorrow,

was from a mother of a child addicted to crack,

who was a single mother and who began to explain

that because of her situation, she had to leave very early from home

and ended up arriving very late,

In the meantime, her son became addicted,

came into a very big problem and she came to the conclusion:

“I fought my whole life so that nothing was missing for my son

but I forgot the most fundamental, that being a mother is for free “.

So when I look at these two examples,

I start to think that we have to rethink

our relations with money and consumption,

because every time I consume something

I’m necessarily giving up

to have more time with my family.

So there is no choice without renunciation.

I’m choosing, I’m giving up.

These points lead me to think

in the second step to feel richer:

I need to let go of things.

and I need to let go of people who are attached to things.

Because the relationship is simple,

will always have someone in a better situation than mine,

ever.

There is no human being who feels full and full.

I will always find someone who, at some point,

You’re better than me.

And if I keep comparing myself the whole time with other people,

I will always feel poor

and I will always feel failure.

So I have to start thinking

in every time that I feel poor and failed,

I remember “what brought me here?”

“I have history to tell, I have it.”

And I have to understand that people are interested in my stories,

people are not interested in the things that I have accumulated.

So I have to let go of these ideas.

The third step for us to feel rich is to

take time to give time.

And here I wanted to give two examples that I have lived in recent years,

which reinforced the concept of wealth.

The first example is a financial consulting I did,

whose mission was to receive customers

and customers had an hour to expose a financial problem

and we came up with a financial solution.

One fine day, a lady arrived.

and she spent 60 minutes, non-stop,

Speaking.

Since she was not talking about financial problems,

she was talking about female problems.

It was her husband, it was the bills,

it was work, it was the children.

And, as much as I tried to intervene to help,

that person just wanted to be heard.

The following example was something I lived here about two years ago.

Every time I finished class,

It ended around ten at night,

one fine day an employee of the operation arrived

and said, “Can you translate this text?”

It was a relatively simple English text,

that I translated for him and after that day

we started to meet frequently,

every end of class

to talk about various topics in English.

It was the colors, the numbers, the lyrics,

and hey, one fine day he says,

“Teacher, I learned a new phrase

and I wanted to write on the board. “

And he wrote this text here: “We can change the world.”

It was a text that made a lot of impact,

because at that time I understood the third step well.

For more money than I had,

it was not in money that those two people were interested.

They were interested in my time,

and time I had to give.

So the third step to feeling rich is

take time to give time.

The last step, which I think is the consolidation

of the last three, is “journey.”

Traveling is an extremely pleasurable thing.

and I wanted to start talking about traveling, over a snippet of a movie

called “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”,

in which he writes to his daughter:

“I hope you see things that startle you.”

And the concept of traveling, it is so important

because it is the synthesis of the last three steps.

For me to travel I need to detach

not only of my things, but of my concepts

which are always so rigid.

For me to travel I need time,

to open myself to the new

and finally for me to travel

I need to understand that traveling tells me

that work is not everything

there is something beyond work.

Within this logic,

the good part of traveling is that traveling is a very broad concept.

Traveling means going from one corner to another,

so I travel when I leave the country,

I travel when I know the inside of my state

and I travel when I go inside of me.

And within the travels I’ve done,

I had the pleasure of meeting 37 countries,

the most interesting trip I’ve done,

after the recommendation of some people,

was to dive inside, was to travel inside.

And, sharing the ideas of these people,

I noticed that when we travel inside,

we find an immense temple within us,

we find a great temple that makes us stronger,

happier and much richer.

The definition that accumulating wealth is to be rich,

is a dictionary definition.

What I ask you is, “What is your definition of being rich?”

Thank you.

(Applause)
