00:00:06to be a designer was really from a young
00:00:09age because I pretty much grew up in a
00:00:11workshop my father’s workshop surrounded
00:00:14by sawdust and tools and being allowed
00:00:18to play with swords from a very early
00:00:19age really kind of fosters and fostered
00:00:22a love for a run design and then I went
00:00:25on to become a trained furniture
00:00:28designer and and then worked for the
00:00:30conran group for many years developing
00:00:32products across lots of different
00:00:33categories I also think my career’s had
00:00:35quite a big impact on what I think is
00:00:38important in design having worked for
00:00:41Conrad as I mentioned there’s a love of
00:00:44food a love of of enjoying life in that
00:00:51business and it definitely has made a
00:00:54big impact on the way in which I
00:00:55approached design the cutlery that we’ve
00:00:58designed for Jamie is trying to tread
00:01:02the fine line between aesthetics and
00:01:06function it’s got to work hard so that
00:01:09it can work in the dishwasher that it’s
00:01:12the right weight in your hand most
00:01:14importantly that it’s comfortable to use
00:01:16it’s got to be durable it’s made from
00:01:181810 stainless steel and we want the
00:01:21piece to look fantastic when it’s laid
00:01:23on the table for a beautiful dinner
00:01:24party and worked really hard in the
00:01:27morning when it’s a children’s messy
00:01:29breakfast my proudest moment in that
00:01:34design is definitely when all the pieces
00:01:39that we do are put together because when
00:01:41you design things you design them to
00:01:44work together you don’t design things in
00:01:46a vacuum I mean I feel that for example
00:01:49this terracotta range and the cutlery
00:01:52working well with thee with this I
00:01:54bought in my in my opinion and one of
00:01:56the proudest moments is when at a trade
00:01:59show like a hundred percent design for
00:02:00example where we get to put all of our
00:02:02pieces as we want them to be all
00:02:04together it’s a pretty wonderful moment
00:02:06when you stand back stand back and you
00:02:08think wow
00:02:09you know that’s all are that’s all I
00:02:11stuff the the inspiration for the
00:02:14terracotta range came from Jamie he
00:02:20wanted to redevelop terracotta cookware
00:02:24that is so often used in Portugal and in
00:02:28Spain so the brief was pretty much
00:02:30designed a range of terracotta which
00:02:32functions as well as the best of the
00:02:34traditional stuff that’s out there but
00:02:36does it in a much more contemporary way
00:02:39it’s been really exciting working on
00:02:41this range of terracotta and cutlery for
00:02:43Jamie more than anything because a lot
00:02:46of what we do is furniture design
00:02:49large-scale pieces for people in
00:02:50people’s interiors and it’s been really
00:02:53lovely to start to work with something
00:02:55smaller cookware which we’re passionate
00:02:58about cutlery which has been a
00:02:59completely different scale again and
00:03:02it’s opened our eyes to to being able to
00:03:05work on a on a completely different type
00:03:07of product something that we hope to do
00:03:08a lot more of in the future
