00:00:08hi comical welcome to another edition of
00:00:11ask Evan in today’s video I’m going to
00:00:14answer your questions from when my
00:00:15readers van who had a question about
00:00:17creating an outsourced organization so
00:00:19the email that he wrote to me dear mr.
00:00:21Carmichael in Los Angeles currently
00:00:24working on creating a virtual company in
00:00:26advertising I spoke with a few ad execs
00:00:28that I feel that feel like I’m crazy for
00:00:30trying to start a virtual company I was
00:00:32researching the topic and came across
00:00:34the Forbes article and it hit me I’m not
00:00:36crazy i’m a writer director that works a
00:00:39bit on the side in advertising it wanted
00:00:41to create a client for virtual company
00:00:42as i have no idea how this works
00:00:45requirements are necessary for the
00:00:46project i’m looking for advice reading
00:00:48materials suggestions or mentor thank
00:00:50you for your time considerations been so
00:00:53by the couple of ideas here for you
00:00:54first office the entirely possible to
00:00:57create in a virtual organization the
00:01:00forbes article that featured me I spoke
00:01:02bulb and people that I had across the
00:01:04world who are doing different projects
00:01:05for me and I almost completely outsource
00:01:07everything that happens in my
00:01:09organization the first thing you need to
00:01:11do when you’re thinking about creating
00:01:12your own outsource company is what is it
00:01:14that you’re going to do so think about
00:01:16your skill sets what you’re really
00:01:18passionate about what you’re really good
00:01:19at and write those down that’s what
00:01:22you’re going to focus on everything else
00:01:24you want to outsource to other people a
00:01:26great resource that I would encourage
00:01:28you to check out it is a website called
00:01:30odesk sets or outsource desk and these
00:01:33provide lists of all workers across the
00:01:36world who want to work on different
00:01:37projects have different skill sets that
00:01:39will compliment what you’re really good
00:01:40at so if you need account support any
00:01:43marketing support if you need admin
00:01:44support you know technical support it’s
00:01:47all there on your desk what happens you
00:01:49can bid on a project so you can put up
00:01:51projects a here’s a budget I have or I’m
00:01:54looking to hire somebody who can
00:01:56you with my website and help me with
00:01:58admin tasks people will start to submit
00:02:00applications and will tell you what
00:02:02their hourly wages and you can often get
00:02:04a pretty good great especially people
00:02:05are overseas and don’t have this high
00:02:08standard of living as as you might in
00:02:10Los Angeles people will submit their
00:02:13bids you can see the picture you can see
00:02:15previous work they’ve done you can see
00:02:16ratings that they have you can see what
00:02:19tests it taking it they’re actually
00:02:20skilled that what they see they’re
00:02:22skilled at so you can think about know
00:02:24you need somebody who speaks perfect
00:02:25English or not getting someone who has
00:02:27really good programming skills or not
00:02:29and all those test requirements are laid
00:02:31out for you and Odette’s you can then
00:02:33interview people and from their time who
00:02:37you want to go with an example for me I
00:02:40make these videos so i try to upload a
00:02:42couple videos every week to my youtube
00:02:44channel I’ve started off doing
00:02:46everything myself to learn the business
00:02:48to learn how it works and I develop my
00:02:49own video editing and I quickly learned
00:02:52that you know i’m not the best video
00:02:54editing the best thing for me to do is
00:02:57answer the questions recorded all and
00:02:59outsource the actual production of the
00:03:01video and so I wanna know desk and I
00:03:03created the job posting saying hey I’ve
00:03:05got a an opportunity for somebody who
00:03:07wants to edit my videos and I have a
00:03:10number right back there were five who
00:03:11are shortlisted and I agreed to hire
00:03:15everybody for an hour give them a video
00:03:17and see what what they could do with it
00:03:20see what I wanted to go with so you have
00:03:21a chance to interview people and also
00:03:23try them out if you like higher than or
00:03:25short-term projects and one of them
00:03:28wrote back a guy named Todd who I ended
00:03:31up iris if he’s the one everything is
00:03:33this video I said and he wrote back
00:03:36saying I don’t charge for spec work so
00:03:39he just did the project and I liked it
00:03:41and a higher and he’s been working for
00:03:43me for a number of months and has worked
00:03:44out bright i just upload everything to
00:03:47him and he sends it back to me final
00:03:49videos all edited and it’s great to save
00:03:51me a lot of time it’s created some extra
00:03:53income and likely
00:03:54for him and we all benefit come in
00:03:57hopefully you guys going to from these
00:03:58videos as well so definitely check out
00:04:00those odesk as a resource for you to be
00:04:02able to help build that virtual
00:04:04organization the last thing I would
00:04:06think about is remember that just
00:04:08because you hired somebody overseas or
00:04:10you’re outsourcing some of your work
00:04:11it’s still something that’s part of your
00:04:14team and you want to treat them like
00:04:15that so you want to think about them you
00:04:18know they’re a person they have feelings
00:04:19you want to just shove work on them and
00:04:22expected to get done you know trying to
00:04:24learn a little bit about them try to be
00:04:25understanding when they have your shoes
00:04:27so for people that I’ve hired and
00:04:30they’ve been outsourced you know
00:04:32sometimes they get sick and then unable
00:04:33to do work right on time or sometimes
00:04:35the nuts comes up maybe their computer
00:04:37crashes or they have a family emergency
00:04:38that kind of stuff is going to happen so
00:04:42you want to be able to make sure that
00:04:43you can support that we understand you
00:04:45and try to you know be that team leader
00:04:47because you know when you are faced with
00:04:49the situation when you need something
00:04:51right now right away super urgent which
00:04:54is going to happen when you get in
00:04:55crisis mode you get a lot of people on
00:04:57your team you can trust will deliver for
00:04:59you so try to give them a little bit of
00:05:01a break when you can remember that
00:05:02they’re part of your team with their
00:05:03they’re only human and they’ll reward
00:05:05you with loyalty and hard work and
00:05:07really care about the business and care
00:05:09about working with you for the long term
00:05:10so I hope that helps if you guys liked
00:05:13the video please give it a thumbs up if
00:05:15you have any other questions or ideas
00:05:16that you want to share it also love to
00:05:18hear your thoughts and feedback if you
00:05:19want to leave a comment below this video
00:05:21and we’ll stay tuned into the next
