00:00:05answer question from one of my readers
00:00:06David about a service I used called PR
00:00:08leads Pierre litas a media service
00:00:11that’s gotten me into the New York Times
00:00:13and Forbes magazine a whole bunch of
00:00:15other media outlets and I wanted to make
00:00:17this quick video today to talk about how
00:00:20i use it how you can use it to so first
00:00:22to David’s question he wrote on one of
00:00:24my blog posts the pier lead service
00:00:26looks interesting so perhaps you can
00:00:28make a video using your own experience
00:00:30of the service to show us how it works
00:00:31or how we can use best wishes did there
00:00:34is a low reader and also active member
00:00:36in our forum so I wanted to the question
00:00:38form what do you think about is on
00:00:39favorable second these ears of all tips

00:00:51basically what’s going to happen is
00:00:53reporters sign up for this service and
00:00:55they’re looking for experts to talk
00:00:57about the different stories that they’re
00:00:59working on so reporters will post all
00:01:01the different stories that working on
00:01:02and say we need an expert who can talk
00:01:04about XYZ and as entrepreneurs we should
00:01:07be experts on our different subject
00:01:09matters so you want to be able to open
00:01:11yourself up as the expert to talk about
00:01:13you know and help them with whatever
00:01:15story they’re working on so it’s a
00:01:18service it’s ninety nine dollars a month
00:01:20here and what’s going to happen is
00:01:21you’ll get emails every day from
00:01:23reporters who are looking to potentially
00:01:25talk to you so what it looks like if I
00:01:27load up my email program you’ll get
00:01:30emails from a service called prof net
00:01:32and that’s PR leads and you can see
00:01:34it’ll come a couple times a day so you
00:01:36know if you look three from june seventh
00:01:38as an example and you can sign up four
00:01:41different categories for me i signed up
00:01:42for the business category because that’s
00:01:44most related to what i talked about and
00:01:46if you click on the email what it will
00:01:49show you is all the different stories
00:01:51that reporters are working on and
00:01:53they’re looking for experts there’s
00:01:55different categories so in this one its
00:01:57business human resources public
00:01:58relations and it’s all still related to
00:02:01entrepreneurship and business which is
00:02:02what I’m interested in and some of them
00:02:05will be from niche magazine so this one
00:02:08here is is human resources culturally
00:02:10fit employees the magazine’s benefits
00:02:13selling so if I was
00:02:15HR consultant and I worked about you
00:02:18know getting the culture fit right at
00:02:19companies this could be a really cool
00:02:21article for me to sign up for and talk
00:02:23to the reporter the next one here is
00:02:27public relations how to preach is
00:02:29rebound up to public scandals that’s
00:02:30from CNN com so if I was in a PR
00:02:33business this is a great opportunity to
00:02:35be able to get into CNN so you want to
00:02:38take a look at those different
00:02:39opportunities if you scroll down on that
00:02:41email what you’ll see is more details
00:02:44about every story that is currently
00:02:47available so the benefit selling one
00:02:49here’s a little bit more information it
00:02:51tells you who the reporter is the
00:02:53magazine when they’re due date is you
00:02:55want to pay attention to that make sure
00:02:57you get it in on time and how to contact
00:02:59them the email address same thing for
00:03:02the next one for CNN com it’s by John
00:03:04Blake from CNN he has a due date and
00:03:06here’s his email address to get in touch
00:03:08with him so one of the things that I
00:03:11found to be really effective is you want
00:03:14to make sure you’re pitching them not
00:03:16just how great you are you don’t want to
00:03:18write to John say hey john i’m a PR
00:03:20consultant and i can help you you want
00:03:22to be able to pitch in the story so i’ve
00:03:24had pretty good success with PR leads
00:03:26and there are other experts to that
00:03:28you’re going up against because you
00:03:30won’t be the only one on this service
00:03:31but what I found being really useful is
00:03:34you want to provide them as much of a
00:03:35story as you can so a good example when
00:03:38Forbes posted on PR leads it was about
00:03:40outsourcing and I’ve done a lot of
00:03:42outsourcing with my business and I
00:03:45didn’t post and say hey you know I’ve
00:03:46done a lot of outsourcing please email
00:03:47me I told him about exactly what I’ve
00:03:50done I’ve I told them who I have working
00:03:52for me I told him how I found them what
00:03:55type of roles they had where they’re
00:03:57living currently and how I run my
00:03:59business with all these outsource people
00:04:01and that turned out to be an interesting
00:04:03story for him and he had a few follow-up
00:04:05questions and he posted it on forbes
00:04:08magazine which is great no I could say
00:04:10I’ve been in Forbes now you don’t have
00:04:13to necessarily always go for the top you
00:04:14can pick niche ones that are really
00:04:16targeted towards your industry but you
00:04:18want to try to provide as much detail
00:04:20and give them a story that they can use
00:04:22as much as possible so that’s one
00:04:26example of an email that came through we
00:04:28can go back again
00:04:29you can just quickly browse through each
00:04:30one that’s what I’ll do every morning is
00:04:32look at each one and see is it
00:04:34interesting to me or not again you’ll
00:04:36see them all over the map in terms of
00:04:37different business backgrounds so HR
00:04:41magazine here Albany Times Union AOL
00:04:44small business and you can get into all
00:04:47sorts of different media again depending
00:04:49on the story that people are looking for
00:04:51the other thing I found really useful is
00:04:53you want to create a media page to talk
00:04:55about all the experience that you’ve had
00:04:57so what I’ve done if you go to any page
00:05:01in my site you’ll notice that the first
00:05:03page in the navigation is about so if
00:05:05you click on that it’ll lead you to my
00:05:07about page and on here the first thing I
00:05:10show is all the different media that
00:05:11I’ve been involved in or at least the
00:05:13bigger ones and more recognizable names
00:05:14so I’ve been in the New York Times and
00:05:16Wall Street Journal and Forbes magazine
00:05:17and it goes on some of the more
00:05:20respected and well known brands I’ve
00:05:23also included some of the TV stuff that
00:05:25I’ve done and just taking screenshots to
00:05:27show that I’ve been on TV and been
00:05:29interviewed and then I put below to
00:05:32arrange interview time you know please
00:05:34contact me here’s my email address so on
00:05:36top of having a good story what the
00:05:38report is looking for is that you really
00:05:40are an expert so you want to have a page
00:05:42you can send them to to say hey you know
00:05:44I really know what I’m talking about and
00:05:45I’ve been featured before nobody wants
00:05:48to be the first one to feature you so
00:05:49it’s great if you’ve been featured
00:05:51already if you haven’t been featured yet
00:05:53by anybody then start with the smaller
00:05:55publications and use those as stepping
00:05:57stones to get to the bigger ones so if
00:05:59I’m trying to go up their story what
00:06:00I’ll do is obviously give them all the
00:06:02information I have and then i’ll also
00:06:06include this link and say you can also
00:06:07check out some of the work that i’ve
00:06:08done i’ve been featured in all these
00:06:10different publications and on TV and
00:06:12that helps provide them a little bit of
00:06:13a safety net to show that hey you know
00:06:15this guy really knows what he’s talking
00:06:17about and he is a establish expert so as
00:06:19entrepreneurs again we should all be
00:06:20experts in our industry and we should
00:06:23know what we’re talking about and media
00:06:25coverage is great it’s it’s almost free
00:06:29in this case and it’s ninety-nine bucks
00:06:30a month it’s a lot cheaper than hiring a
00:06:32media consultant to help you and it can
00:06:35get you a lot of a business a lot of
00:06:37recognition a lot more than advertising
00:06:39can and again it’s all off the key
