00:00:10invasive species expert Martin Golding
00:00:13is investigating a startling phenomena
00:00:16less than 20 years ago England was
00:00:19completely free of wild boar today
00:00:22hundreds prowl the forests here but
00:00:27while Chris Griffin wouldn’t face
00:00:28Hogzilla without a gun Martin’s only got
00:00:31a flashlight which is playing a game of
00:00:34chance we know they’re about as we’ve
00:00:36heard them in the distance on one rarely
00:00:39close up because it makes the hair on
00:00:41the back of your neck stand up so we’re
00:00:43just gonna walk quietly through the
00:00:45woods without it open just listening
00:00:49this is not just a bottle of water this
00:00:52is a wild boar that has been wallowing
00:00:54and you can see where the sides down
00:00:58where the animal is rolled was very well
00:01:02this is very conspicuous oval-shaped
00:01:05patch of water over the border rolling
00:01:11the animal he seeks is the Eurasian wild
00:01:14boar an ancestor of Hogzilla and perhaps
00:01:17the close relative
00:01:23the wild boars returned to britain holds
00:01:26a sobering lesson hogs have abilities
00:01:29were just beginning to fathom some form
00:01:35of pig has walked the earth
00:01:37for 40 million years their earliest Pig
00:01:41had a head more than 3 feet long bigger
00:01:44than the entire body of a grown wild
00:01:46boar today some prehistoric pigs reached
00:01:50the size of cows and many had long horn
00:01:53like protrusions on their heads over
00:01:57time they evolved into the smaller wild
00:02:00boars that still roam forests around the
00:02:02world they may be smaller but today’s
00:02:07wild hogs carry an arsenal of weapons
00:02:09long tusks tough shoulders like battle
00:02:14shields long powerful snouts that can
00:02:17smell an enemy up to 7 miles away
00:02:21they’ve got terrifying built-in
00:02:23armaments but thousands of years ago
00:02:26wild boar used an even better weapon to
00:02:29survive their brain when civilization
00:02:32was young wild boar formed a strategic
00:02:35relationship and started living with
00:02:38humans
