00:00:09the Valley of the Kings a team of

00:00:13forensic experts is on the trail of

00:00:15Nefertiti and that lost Amarna dynasty

00:00:18led by dr. Zahi Hawass Secretary General

00:00:22of Egypt’s Supreme Council of

00:00:24Antiquities and explorer-in-residence

00:00:26for National Geographic they’ve come to

00:00:29a dark and mysterious tomb known as kV

00:00:3235

00:00:35inside a small side chamber two mummies

00:00:39they have been there for centuries

00:00:41without coffins without wrappings some

00:00:46believe they were moved from the

00:00:48original resting place hidden away by

00:00:50priests to protect them from tomb

00:00:52Raider’s both of these mummies have at

00:00:55times been identified as Queen Nefertiti

00:00:58some have claimed that she is the body

00:01:01on the right the so-called elder lady

00:01:04but recently in press reports around the

00:01:07world she has been identified as the

00:01:09mummy on the Left known as the younger

00:01:11lady some scholars they believe that

00:01:17this mummy is for Queen Nefertiti if you

00:01:20are a scientist you cannot announce a

00:01:23discovery unless you are sure hundred

00:01:25percent that this is mummy is for Queen

00:01:28Nefertiti we are now in the beginning of

00:01:32scientific research to find out for the

00:01:34first time through the CT scan machine

00:01:36that can go inside the mummy

00:01:40tonight the team has come for answers

00:01:43their goal to get the scientific

00:01:46evidence that will establish whether

00:01:47either of these mummies could be

00:01:49Nefertiti it’s a groundbreaking

00:01:53investigation using the latest

00:01:55technology a CT scan machine brought in

00:02:01by National Geographic specifically for

00:02:04this purpose 21st century Diagnostics

00:02:08for a mystery 3,000 years old as part of

00:02:13the first set of CT scans ever performed

00:02:15on the Royal mummies of Egypt this

00:02:17non-invasive technology allows

00:02:20scientists to look inside a body an

00:02:22unprecedented three-dimensional detail

00:02:24without doing any harm

00:02:28dr. Hawass has called in two expert

00:02:31radiologists dr. Ashraf Salim and after

00:02:35Hanny aimer to help in the investigation

00:02:37it is a mysterious mummy

00:02:42but today maybe we’ll be able to find

00:02:45out exactly that this money is for Queen

00:02:47Nefertiti and maybe is not for the Queen

00:02:51the idea of this so-called younger lady

00:02:54as Nefertiti has been a source of

00:02:56controversy in recent years some

00:02:59scholars make the claim based on several

00:03:01clues the most important a broken arm

00:03:05found in nearby wrappings the hand once

00:03:09clenched a scepter the symbol of

00:03:11ultimate power in ancient Egypt the sign

00:03:14of a pharaoh or a queen other clues in

00:03:18the identification an indentation from a

00:03:20headband and double pierced ears all

00:03:24seem to match the last known images of

00:03:27the Queen but many scientists have

00:03:30argued the case is purely circumstantial

00:03:33my reaction when the news broke that

00:03:36Nefertiti’s been discovered was complete

00:03:38rubbish as far as I can see is

00:03:41absolutely no possibility whatsoever

00:03:43that mummy could be Nefertiti there’s a

00:03:46lot of princess Moses time probably a

00:03:49hundred so it can can be any of this

00:03:52princess

00:03:55Nefertiti wasn’t just any princess to

00:04:00track her down you have to understand

00:04:02who she was one of the great icons of

00:04:08the world born into nobility growing

00:04:14into a beauty she was chosen by the

00:04:17Pharaoh Akhenaten to be his bride

00:04:19their love became the stuff of legend

00:04:23literally carved into the stones of

00:04:25Egypt they had six daughters together

00:04:30according to some scholars Akhenaten may

00:04:33have really not just wife and queen but

00:04:39eventually co-regent Akhenaten wanted to

00:04:45present Nefertiti somebody who was

00:04:48sharing her with him there are a few

00:04:52reliefs in which very unusually indeed

00:04:54she’s shown smiting Egypt’s enemy as if

00:04:58she’s on the same military footing as

00:05:01her husband but whether or not they rule

00:05:05together both shared the same fate

00:05:08disappearing into the sands of Amarna
