For starters, two things:
if you fight hard to get your dreams
Maybe you do not get them.
(Laughter)
And second,
If you think there is something impossible,
Maybe it is.
Or in vain, no?
(Laughter)
No, I’ll explain.
I am not what I dreamed I would be when I was 15 years old.
I wanted to be an actor logically, but not any actor,
I wanted to be a world-famous actor.
I wanted the Oscar.
I was so convinced that they were going to give it to me.
Come on, I had written the thank you speech.
(Laughter) Really.
So I decided to study drama
and I did it in Seville, in the Andalusian Theater Center,
the CAT.
I was convinced that when the race was over,
someone was going to come and I was going to throw myself into the world star.
I just had to wait for that someone,
it was a matter of waiting for it to come; simple as that,
because of my natural talent.
(Laughter)
It’s clear that did not happen!
Because I’m not … famous worldwide and really or nationally,
Maybe regionally or provincially.
Most of what you are here or those who are watching this video
they do not know what my name is and those who know it,
They do not know how to write.
(Laughter)
That’s how it is!
Come on, I’m not a famous actor.
I am an actor who works, and a lot.
What position to choose?
And it’s true that …
Yes, there are famous actors who do not work, that’s true.
(Laughter)
It is true that you have seen me move,
that have called me to do series or movies
and they have had some very successful
and this has been very good.
But it is also true that
for years they have not called me at all,
but still I have continued working always
because I have always had what I have called my self-management.
Self-management is a somewhat ambiguous term but referring to work
I think you understand me.
I discovered the term self-management when I was studying in Seville,
in the CAT.
We started doing impromptu shows on Wednesday nights
in a scenario that was in the cafeteria of the institute.
There the show consisted of the one who wanted to sign up,
he went up and did what he wanted without rules, without premises;
the only rule was that you had to manage your own
that you had to self-manage,
hence the term self-management.
The truth was that we did not have a great time
and we made big shits, right? (Laughter)
But this was about, to get on there,
launch, risk, and whatever it was.
We learned a lot and, over time, I realized that these workshops
they really changed my life, because to me and a few
it changed our lives, because in the end those workshops forced us
to look inside and know what we had, what we could get, what we could offer,
to eat the coconut and create something, right?
And everyone discovered something, I discovered that I could write things that
people made him laugh and that encouraged me to keep going.
Of how little good this crisis has been
what we have gone through or what we are going through,
is that it has generated so much need in so many people
and it has caused many to look inside to see what they have
and wonderful things have come out,
not only my profession or any other,
have emerged many of these that today are called entrepreneurs
and that are dedicated to what I call self-management.
I’m a fan of self-management
and a big fan of entrepreneurs,
because they have chosen the most difficult path:
ride it by themselves.
I, well, we are not deceived, we would all like to
someone, that someone would appear at the door of our house
and tell us: friend here you have a fixed job for life
where you will work little and earn a lot.
But that usually does not happen, right?
You can send your resume everywhere and hope they call you
or you can not wait for them to call you and dedicate themselves to self-management.
Self-management begins by asking oneself:
What would I like to do?
What do I like to do?
Or what am I good at doing?
or what I would like to do.
It can be something very simple to learn to play the guitar
because you’ve always wanted.
Or in the end something as big as riding an oil industry or something.
You can become a multimillionaire,
which happens sometimes.
Or you can simply create your own work and have a salary
that allows you to live with dignity
or have an extra income or just get to fulfill a dream
of your childhood that made you very excited.
The beginnings, of course, are not easy, because
There will always be someone who will tell you that it is impossible,
that can not be done, usually someone from your environment, right?
You, 40 years old, learn to play the guitar?
(Laughter)
Yes, because people do not know what to do with their life,
but with that of others it is very clear.
(Laughter)
(Applause)
And that’s when my big golden rule comes and that,
never let yourself be convinced by the first one not to be given
because they’re always going to tell you no,
that you can not, I think it’s something inherent to the human being,
say no entry, especially
if that person generates the slightest effort, you know?
As if to take it from you, we say no
and we can not allow that to happen.
And with this I return to the phrases with which I have started:
maybe there is something that is impossible,
there are things that can not really be done,
but the road that you have to travel since they give you the first one
until you really discover
that could not be done is very long
and I guarantee you that it is worth traveling.
It is worth exploring because on the way you can discover
amazing things.
If you struggle to achieve your dreams,
maybe you do not get exactly your dreams,
but I’m sure and that’s guaranteed
that I will get many other things that are …
They can be even better than your dreams.
They can be better – basically – because it is what there is.
(Laughter)
And because you have discovered it, because you have built it.
And that’s really what’s valuable in all this
and the amazing thing,
because it’s amazing when you really discover
that after that and not the other and not the other
there is a very big yes and that in the end if you could do that
that seemed so difficult, because sometimes we believe it
and we say: well, if they said that you can not,
it can not.
And that’s not the case because you have to prove it for yourself.
And it’s amazing how you realize you’ve touched the keys
what you had to touch;
that you have insisted over and over again
That you did not let yourself be convinced by the first, not by the second,
that you were the heaviest or the heaviest on the planet,
You have to be very heavy!
I would love for my epitaph to be: in the end I got it
For heavy!
(Laughter)
To me … (Applause)
The truth is that I also debate between another epitaph that is:
you can not be everywhere, but (laughs)
It also has to do with this … I still wear both.
The best I could do when I finished the race,
it was even though I was sure that someone was going to arrive,
It was not sitting down to wait for it to arrive.
So, I put into practice what I had learned
in self-management workshops and I kept writing
or I started writing my monologues and my songs
and I started doing it by bars, squares, squares, alleys
and some small theater, the thing was growing and growing
and in the end, that gave me food.
And it’s very good, until today.
Let’s not fool ourselves, I do not want to give a false image,
I am happy with the life I have.
But, of course, it does not look much like what I dreamed when I was 15 years old.
Sometimes it’s hard to face that reality
It’s different from how you dreamed it, you know?
And of course, I get angry. I get angry with my self-management.
It’s a pain in the ass! I wanted them to give me everything done
and I had to get to work … I screwed up, motherfucker, you know?
(Laughter)
That’s true.
I get angry, I get frustrated sometimes, because I think I deserve
much more than what I have.
And I get angry when I see that they did not call me seven years for almost nothing
and I had to ride everything by myself.
And I get angry because I have failed the calculations,
you know they have failed me … dreams have failed me
my imagination failed me, it failed me because …
you do not believe that I am not what I dreamed when I was 15 years old,
is that even when I was 35 … (Laughter)
Every year I renew dreams,
(Laughter) Let’s see if they are fulfilled, I say,
I invent them and I get it and one day I hit.
I get angry because I have failed dreams, I have failed people, industry,
but in the end who has not failed me has been “me”.
And my self-management has always been there.
My little thing, my small parcel that I have been building little by little
and that in the end it has become big, I have it there
and it has always been there; when they have stopped calling me,
I’ve always pulled my stuff
and I have not been standing in my life because I do not feel like it,
because I’ve always been looking and I always want to keep looking
and after all, if that someone does not arrive, it does not look like he’s going to arrive …
(Laughter)
If that someone does not arrive,
I will at least be satisfied that I did everything I could,
that I touched all the things, that I insisted, that I’m still heavy, that I keep looking,
and that I’m still looking to see what will be new.
Now I have a cooking channel on YouTube. What the fuck is that?
(Laughter) (Applause)
If you saw the illusion that I made a pie to the Galician …
(Laughter)
When she came out of that oven I saw her and almost cried … it’s really incredible …
(Laughter)
Well, it’s true! I keep looking, doing things,
and I accept the reality that I have although I keep dreaming
and I keep thinking and I keep trying to fabricate what comes next.
Look what I know! I can not guarantee you that if you fight for your dreams
you are going to get them,
that nothing is impossible …
But I have very clear that if you stay in your house
sitting down is when you’re not going to get anything
and that we all have something we would like to do,
something for which we are really worth
and that if we can not do it, maybe we discover … that we did not like it.
But we discovered that we like something else, or we know someone
with whom you can work, we know something else, always
things are discovered along the way
because the road is really the important thing
and in the end we do not know what it is going to be.
And that is incredible!
We can not be slaves to our dreams but we can not let go for them
because … looking, searching, there are many things …
Maybe it’s not what I was looking for, maybe it’s not what I dreamed
when I was 15 years old.
Maybe it’s not the Oscar,
but it sure is very good, because you have achieved it.
And you have built it.
I’ve been waiting for that someone all my life
and in the end it will turn out that that someone is me.
(Applause)
Thank you very much.
