¿De quién depende salvar al tití? | Anne Savage | TEDxBarranquilla

[Music]

do you know this animal

if now it’s the marmoset but there’s a lot

people here in Colombia where no

I know the cotton-top tamarin does not

they have fame as the chimps of

that none but here in Colombia is a

very important animal

when I was 19 years old

I was a university student

wisconsin and I think I’m going to be

psychologist but one day I went with a

my teacher and he opened the door and

I see the face of those animals and I do not

I had that was I think it ‘s unique

I did not know that but you know one thing when

I see the face of these animals and the

eyes that look at me so much something happened my

life I said that as my curiosity

I want to know more about this animal

Then I changed everything

Now I said that I will not be

psychologist with children

I’m going to be studying marmosets

parents was furious

then my teacher told me

we are going to study these animals and for

the next four years

we are doing the first

studies of otitis in captivity but

one thing is very important that they

you know is that marmosets are in danger

of extinction

then he had a dilemma

I say that I am here in the city

March in wisconsin studying marmosets

but that is an animal in danger of

extinction where eleven is not in

danger of extinction

and in Colombia then if I want

help this animal touch me to go to

Colombia

then I was the first time family

Colombia in the year 87 and this was a

awesome experience

now colombia I felt like my second

home

I spent a lot of time here and

thanks to many people and I can pass

long time studying the marmosets in the

forest the thing that I want to tell you is

a very nice story about this animal

here

She is called tamara tamarin camera

this animal is 16 years old a

soul as small as it weighs only

400 grams and now they are 16 years old in

living in the forest

here in colombia and that is very rare

because animals normally night in

a day so long but thanks to tamara

and with his family

we have a lot of information

about marmosets or very marmosets

like us live in families

as we have a mom there is a dad

and the children and they spend all day

there in the forest eating and

resting and sometimes fighting

the thing is very interesting to the marmosets

and that he moms always have

twins the twins are born each time

year and babies are quite the

pcn babies like 15% breast weight

This is similar if I have two children

that weighs five kilos

one very difficult to take care of the silhouette

I hope the marmosets or very smart

the mother that I am not able to carry

these kids so giant and also

I can go find food and and take care of

others and those who are in my house do not

can do these things alone then

for the marmosets is something very cool

all family members help

to take care of babies like us

marmosets are not born with all the things that

they need to know to measure in the

forest babies do not know they are

good to eat do not know where you can

sleep but parents who teach

all like us then the marmosets

many fruits eat more than 90 ie

of fruit also eat insects and gums

but when babies are born and started

eat as is the way to learn

they watch their parents eat their

brothers and it’s something very funny because

when a marmoset has food in its hand

has some very special action

who said I have food and when the

babies listen is they come for

remove food and countries in 5

very happy, nothing is eating

then the marmosets are very similar

we also because this is very

common in families and nothing else

that is cool and the marmosets and

they have a language like us

they have more than 40 little shares and

they have vocalizations any

idea

then these are few actions

that said that I’m lost and those

it’s something I do not want that’s going to happen

the marmosets do not want us

here in Colombia I was going to lose that

species is something very important

all of us need to take care of their

marmosets if you are interested in knowing more

about the vocalizations the marmosets

we have a program where you can

learn to speak with a beat and with

great pleasure but the most important thing

is that these marmosets only live here in

Colombia can not find these

animals in forests in other countries in

the world only here this is your

natural heritage then touches that

take care of them

this is very important for the future of

all Colombians

then we have a very serious problem

the house of the marmosets that is the forest

almost no more than 95% of the

tropical forest have disappeared there is no

voice that is now a very serious problem

the second problem is that there are not many

marmosets in the year 60 colombia exported

more than 30,000 chalk the united states

for biomedical studies and now

there’s only less than 25 percent of

this amount of chalk who here in

Colombia

that’s something very serious almost no marmosets

here and this is the natural heritage

the other problem is that many people

like to have pitis as pets

I imagine that you here know

people who have marmosets and that’s something

fatal because of the spices because you know

These animals

messi

live in the forest with your family not with

the family of us I know that I

I have a lot of interest in caring and

keep the marmosets I’m super

powerful but the thing is that I do not

I am the only person who needs

caring for marmosets needs the help of

all this people here in colombia and

thank you we now have a team

amazing here that he was born here in

barranquilla and this is foundation

marmoset project that is led by

Rosa Miguel Guillen and these people are

working every day with

communities with children with many

people here in colombia for

keep these marmosets and that’s because

I have hope because now there is

people who want to keep marmosets no

only I have more people now that

has this interest but that is

necessary to save the marmoset that things

we need city

first you need to have people to value

nature

this is very important because if

you do not value these things who is going to

look after

we have programs in the communities

where children can have a

book is called antilles and this catiti a

they have a story about the marmoset

called titito marmoset and children can

learn life in usa have forest and

what is happening now in the forest and

that’s something very important because

you know a lot about these communities

children go to school and do not have

books but now they have their

first a book and this book has

impact because kids love

take this book to the house

is reading this with all members

from the family and neighbors , something else

that are very important is that the

children have the opportunity yesterday the

forest and look at the tees not only in

the book but now has the opportunity

and look at tamara tito and all the myths

that are over there and it’s a very impact

big

this change the attitude of many of

these children because now it’s something real

in life and they want to help you

another problem that we have is

this problem that many people

like to have the marmosets as a pet but

we know the marmosets are not

good for pets that animals are

good for pets

the dogs but many children there not

I think dogs are very good for

pets are stupid and these things

but we have this program called

friend where we teach the

young how to take care of their dogs and

also show how smart they are

the dogs because we teach the

kids to do tricks with their dogs

and now the children are thinking that in

these dogs that super cool and now

they do not want but I do not want to issue as

pets who dogs what other problem

is that he knows there is not much forest and

there are many communities that need

forest resources to survive

then we have programs for

help your communities to decrease

its impact on the forest

many of these people who cook with firewood

with three bankruptcies they use like 15 tomes

of firewood

every day is a lot

firewood and that’s a lot we all have a

program with bing is that it is a stove

who cook with much less line 5

Logs is a very enea thing

if nothing else is also we have

many problems when people are

making fences because many are cut

trees to make this case also

there are problems in the communities because

there’s no way to recycle garbage and

in many of these communities

there is a lot of contamination with bags

plastic with halo is plastic with

plastic bottles but we

we have a very interesting idea we are going to

collect all these plastics in these

communities with the people who live there

employ these people and we will

recycle this plastic and make a post

of plastic that is now called you

poles and these guys is now it’s very

good because the voice is saved

helps people in communities to

they do not live with so much pollution and

also people have jobs but

another thing is to look for opportunities to

work with these communities so that

is also produce their impact on the

forest

We have a group of artisans who are

super excellent these women now

is making stuffed marmosets like

is cute here and is the only one

we have programs where you are doing

backpacks and those backpacks are fine

Cute super cute but they are made

with plastic bags is called as

chila and they now have a lot of fame with

this program in their women won the

equatorial prize problem that this is

something very important

look at those books things if done in pure

plastic bags is nothing else is that

also these women are doing

very nice things that is now more to

part of a parade of jülich hasbún and

francisca miranda

so what an elegant thing that is

very girl is now with all this here

in Barranquilla we have people who

now he knows that he does not need to have marmosets

as pets there are communities that

now that they are looking for alternatives

to remove resources from the forest

but the most important thing and that is

something that you can also

help us is we need to keep

the marmosets and the forests that are here

in Colombia because there are not many things

is one of the things that is happening is

Titi project foundation in these

last four years is working

to conserve those forests

now we have three private reserves

for marmosets it ‘s a miracle to have this

for the animals and I am very

proud for that we have people who

is working we have children that

is also helping to heal and

we have this fabulous team of

foundation maritime project but from whom

it depends on saving the marmoset depends on me

Sure but it’s up to you

It depends
