Profession is about skills, not gender | Anna Zakaryan | TEDxAparan

When will you become grown up?

Is not that too your question?

All of us had the answer to our options,

our child dreams and desires.

One dreamed of becoming a doctor, the other was a policeman, and another one was a singer.

And I did not like the answers to adults.

metro driver.

Every time after answering a proud-proud answer

I was waiting for praise and suddenly disappointed,

Instead of listening to praise, I met

face strange expressions,

which were not so encouraging.

I always said:

“Well, baby boy, you’re a girl and you have to pick a girl.”

Or, “How can a girl be a driver, this is the subway?”

And so, my simple desire just left a dream.

Today I already understand,

that in our society a woman can have a car only for washing.

(Applause)

Well, what about the car,

if the Armenian woman should sit at home and work in the kitchen.

There are many investigations related to this issue.

So I decided to ask

I learned about my fellow villagers and fellow villagers,

that most women would choose different professions,

if not the pressure of the society.

From the childhood I was interested in the issue,

why we make distinctions between professions.

That who and when he decided,

that one profession is female and the other boys are boys.

Perhaps the problem comes from a small home when children are taught,

for example, girls should play with dolls

or with the so-called girl toys,

boys, cars or weapons.

Or, boys should do business with only boys,

and girls only have girlfriends.

Yes, they were just walking in the park

and I met a group of soccer players,

There was a girl away from them who was sad.

As I was accustomed to asking for, what would happen alone,

and I found out that the girl loved football very much,

wanted to join friends.

And they refused, saying that she was a girl

and has nothing to do with football and they will not play with the girl.

After a long discussion with the boys, I succeeded

take him to the game.

And you know, he played better than anyone else.

Our persistent boys not only continued to play with love,

but also promised to invite the girl to all their games.

Let me bring another example.

I recently read,

that the survivors tend to say four times more to their daughters

The phrase “be careful” is better than the boys.

And usually they are worried,

when their girl children play in the yard.

And they are warning more about the dangers.

And then, when the children grow up

girls are shaping the opinion,

that they need more protection,

and the boys are more independent.

It turns out that not boys are born to be leaders,

or girls to be teachers,

but we are educating it so.

For example, in the case of teachers, some people think,

or being a teacher is a woman’s job.

In the other part, there are few male teachers,

because the salary is low.

But according to The New York Times,

despite the high salary

In United States, three-fourths of teachers are women.

I have heard many times that a woman can not be a leader.

However, research by Harvard Business Review shows that,

that clients are more satisfied with the work of female leaders,

and usually they are in a better relationship

with their employees.

I think you will all agree,

a lot of male teachers or female leaders

we are not in danger.

On the contrary, a better working environment is created

our schools and workplaces.

One thing I remembered was that almost all of them thought,

the woman will not be able to drive, or the man will be able to straighten her hair.

And today we have an almost opposite image.

Women mostly rely on men’s hairstyle.

Men are three times more accused

aggressive traffic

and 25% more are causing car accidents.

And what do you think, maybe,

that one day I would become one of the few women in the world with a few metro stations.

You saw me one day and smiled.

(Applause)
