Finding my center in prison | Chung Kao | TEDxSanQuentin

Translator: Ines Azabou Checker: Riyad Almubarak

When thrown into prison,

I was a scary student

Who speaks little English,

He knows nothing about racism,

I had to get a crash course to learn

To work through it,

To talk garbage,

And…

To learn how to fight.

Therefore, in the first ten years,

I have worked religiously,

Lift weights when available,

Psychology and how to fight

Bidi,

Burjley,

And my body.

In battles, I stabbed,

Four ribs have broken into pieces,

Of course, others have been hurt.

Violence against violence was the way to go, I thought.

But also felt there was something missing.

There was nothing right in the picture.

It was not me.

So, I spent the next 13 years trying to find myself.

Just who am I?

I’m not sure I have the answer today,

But I did not find anything.

I found a central

Through meditation and discipline.

I got lost,

Swimming in the ocean

Of internal discipline.

Focus only,

intransigence,

And faith

They took me back to the center

Repeatedly.

Who knows others

he is clever.

Who knows the soul

Is enlightened.

Who Overcomes Others

Is strong.

Which overcomes the self

Is the mighty ..

So, this is the story

How I found my center

Through meditation

Discipline.

thank you.
