I’ll show you how to make a campfire …
With a sandwich bag
In the past I showed you how you can make fire with water, among other things
or lamps, plastic film, bottles or even your own urine.
I now focus on the sandwich bag
Because there is a big chance that you have something like that when you are hickening
One of the most important things to make a fire is tree bark.
Especially the kind of tree bark. We are looking for an extremely dry bark
I also use some bark, which I grind into powder.
Because contrary to what you have seen in my other videos, it is not easy to burn paper.
We will use these large stones to grind the bark and bark into powder.
The finer the powder, the easier we can light it with the help of sun rays.
So, after I’ve edited the bark with these stones for a few minutes,
Can you see that it has become a very fine substance. Just sawdust
The darker the wood color, the better, because dark wood absorbs the most heat.
Now that we have done this, we can continue with
the final preparations before we start lighting it.
A nice flat piece of bark like this is good as a mat to put the grinded tree bark on.
If we have that in order, we can carefully put the dust on it,
and make a small pile.
In addition, it is a good idea to have a second portion of dust as a backup.
because when the embers and charcoals start to smolder,
you want some extra dust to sprinkle over it to speed up the process.
Today I have brought my little buddy who will help me.
He collects some thin twigs that we can use as initial fuel.
You see that the ground is strewn with small twigs,
and we want the thinnest possible.
Because that is where we are going to transfer our glowing embers when we have a flame.
Trees are a good source for starting fuel,
Because they have super thin, old, dry twigs.
Within a few seconds you have a hand full of twigs.
This is great for when the flame gets bigger.
The last thing that can help us start the fire,
is something like dead grass, like this yellow stuff here.
If you grab it below and pull it out,
you have enough to fold a litter.
Our small sticks and twigs can get a nice spot in that.
Okay, guys, I stiffened the forest
to collect all the materials together,
now I put them here neatly in order of use.
I start with this small mountain of twigs here.
If we have lighted it by means of sunrays, I have a little bit
coarser bark that I have grinded to sprinkle over.
If that smokes nicely
Here we have the dead grass that I can form into a small litter.
If that catches fire, we have the thin twigs, which help us to let the flame burn through
and hopefully that’s enough
to light it.
If there is enough heat to light this
the fire must be able to keep itself alive from there.
The trick to use a plastic sandwich bag
to make a fire
is first that you empty it,
then you fill it with water,
fill the bag half full,
you can fill water from a stream like I do here,
or water from your bottle,
or under extreme circumstances you can even use your urine.
The first thing you do is
folding the bag into a diamond shape,
with one of the points down.
Then we take the top
and run it
to include as much water as possible.
The more you turn your bag
the more he will turn off
and get these curves,
making it look like a convex lens
and that is precisely the intention.
However, it is a thin line that you balance on:
the more you spin,
the faster the bag tears
and then you have lost everything
