“El deporte ha puesto en orden mi desorden” | Javier Díaz | TEDxRúaSanFroilán

I’ll tell you a little about my story.

and as some twisted irons, as Pablo said, took me

to direct my life.

Thank you, Pablo.

In the beginning, I was living a messy life.

It was chaotic, a total disaster.

Alcohol every day, drugs …

when that was not enough, I even self-mutilated myself.

A life without meaning.

And it was so for nine years, until one day a hope appeared:

the birth of a nephew of whom I would be the best man.

This created in me so many dreams, so much hope, so much desire to live,

That I reconsidered my life.

And so it was, he wanted to fight again,

resume my life,

and that made sense to me, my family

and all who had known me since childhood.

Until one day, five days after his birth,

They give me the bad news that we lost him.

Just imagine.

Once you have focused on changing,

I lost the hope of my life.

And I continued.

I continued with the people who stayed,

the ones I liked so much.

I wanted to show the world what I could do,

to be with him, without him, with all or with no one.

Because we are able to achieve everything we propose.

In time, I started to run,

I left to swim, I left the bad companies,

the excess of alcohol, the drugs, I stopped self-mutilating …

I started to lead a good life.

Now I’ve been practicing this sport for three years.

As soon as I started, I met a group of fantastic guys.

They treated me very well, they were polite, respectful …

True friends.

They fill my afternoons with happiness.

This sport is practiced in outdoor parks:

high bars, parallel, on the floor …

And I can say that I weighed 100 pounds.

I’m 70 now.

How could I change my life so much?

Changing the diet, habits and training.

This training provided me with

to be able to travel, to share with others what life is for me.

What she gave me and what she took away.

And I value what I have, because I know what it is to lose.

Nowadays this sport has evolved a lot.

In Lugo we started in 5 and in 3 years we managed to exceed 100.

Faces at risk of social exclusion, unstructured families …

Totally free.

I teach two days a week myself.

Seeing the championships and what was done, I wanted to contribute a little more.

I looked for another job, since they did not pay me,

and yet it was not enough, so I got one more.

With them, I managed to organize and finance a championship here,

with a little help from the Council.

Then I could travel, meet people, move on,

I was a judge last year of a national final

and organizer of a world championship

in which he invested money.

I have many projects and will to live,

willingness to fight for the happiness of others,

because to see someone happy is to feel good about themselves.

I believe that the greatest talent we have

is to give, to want to give, and to expect nothing in return.

Good morning, my name is Javier,

and that was how a sport put order in my disorder.
