When I was 18 years old, it was the first time a hospital had been admitted.
My parents see otherwise,
They say I entered it for the first time when the typhoid fever hit me at the age of two
I was on the brink of death for several weeks.
Fortunately, my mind erased this experience.
When you reached the age of majority,
I was a university student studying my first year in nursing
I started my practical training for the first time in the hospital
I remember that very day.
My parents bought me white uniforms,
A pair of nursing shoes and a headset I still hold.
We thought that this was all I needed
To do my practical training and deal with patients.
I was so excited that I could not sleep well last night.
Once I got to the hospital, everything was different
What they told me and what I imagined.
I remember the smell of medicines,
The smell of disinfectants that permeated everything …
But despite everything,
This medical world has been great for me.
It also lasted until 3 days.
On my third day there,
I saw someone struggling for death for the first time in my life.
I got my degree as a nurse at the age of 20
By that time, I had seen with my own eyes
People are dying more than anyone in the world.
After two years of practicing nursing, I and my colleagues have experienced
The most dramatic situations you can imagine.
Worse, no one has prepared us for these positions.
Each of us holds the position as best he can.
The first times I went home and cried.
I remember their stories, their faces and their families …
And moments of pain …
But then I decided that if I wanted to be a nurse,
I have to make my shield,
And by which I can bear
All this pain that coexisted.
And, above all, such health professionals
Whom I knew
Who were working far away – ostensibly – for all this pain
Apparent.
I say, ostensibly, because, as I have already mentioned,
That no one prepares us to bear the sufferings of others.
No one is ready to face death daily face to face.
So when I was 18 years old I had the option to change my profession,
Or drowning in that pain that I witnessed
Or thyroid industry as previously reported,
Searching for a way out.
I found him in humor.
It may seem strange,
But my humor helped me to bear all this.
I laugh at my laughter and even at myself.
Thanks to the use of humor in my work,
My heart began to empty.
She was able to leave the hospital to get rid of all the pain.
But I thought that as humor was a cure for me,
It can be the same for someone else
It can also be for patients.
I thought of using humor in patients’ rooms,
I thought I could be a positive driver for patients.
You can not imagine the result.
Entering a patient’s room
To put the antibiotic,
Or to change the catheter or prepare a treatment,
To do so using humor,
To break the monotony and sadness
Which fills the escorts and the families of patients.
Or to relieve the pain of a patient by a bad joke,
Or a position has happened to you.
Or enter the room saying:
“Come on, Josefa, wake up, good morning!
You should wake up at the end of this week
There’s a concert and we’ll go dancing together. “
The patient smiles and feels comfortable
I assure you that this relieves more than the Nellotil pain reliever.
It may seem strange to you to use humor with pain
In the hospital,
Sharing someone’s moments of pain
Through humor is wonderful.
Why? Because laughter brings us closer to others.
Laughter makes us human.
It brings people together.
More importantly, it is
Makes the patient strong in the face of pain.
Do not think that the benefits of laughter
Limited to the patient’s mental state.
Laughter is also useful on the physical level,
More than you think.
Laughing secrete endorphins,
As we know that endorphins
It is a strong analgesic and anti-inflammatory.
Laughter also affects the nervous system
Activator of the symbiotic system.
Which in turn improves circulation,
It improves the process of oxygenation and intestinal irritation.
What’s the point?
That the patient relaxes better and faster.
It needs anti-inflammatory drugs and fewer sedatives
It also needs better.
If there is something I learned during my years as a nurse,
It is that life is very short.
It passes quickly …
Working as a nurse, face death daily face to face,
Makes you see that …
Any day can be our last day.
It also makes us see, especially I
All those working in the hospital,
How lucky we are to be alive.
But be aware, live positively.
Not negative, not preoccupied with the bad side,
Or how we will die, or on any day, no no.
We live in a positive way.
Life is volatile.
It has many things that we can not control or change.
No one can control
In turning one of its cells into a cancerous cell.
No one can.
But what you really control
Is your way of facing problems,
In your daily life.
This is the only part you can truly control
Decide how you would like to deal with your ideas
Get emotional power that enables you
From facing difficult moments in life.
For you are passing by them
And you will go through it constantly.
But in this aspect of life you are free to choose.
As I told you, I am a nurse
That is why we and my colleagues promise
Two witnesses to human life,
In all stages.
We can form an important part of it.
Thanks to that, we have a lot of experience gained
In dealing with patients.
I have spoken with many patients who have gone through shocking moments,
And even painful moments close to death.
If there is agreement on all of them,
It is that they will not replace their suffering with anything else.
Why? Because they learned a lot from them.
Thanks to these painful and shocking moments,
They rearranged their lives
According to their priorities in life.
They saw what really mattered and what was not.
Moreover, they have become more tolerant,
They were able to cope with their pain.
I was very happy that I was able to share my story with you
And a dramatic story.
I am convinced that the pain is met with laughter
May be the best way to face it.
But perhaps only.
Because humor does not cure wounds
But it makes them more likely.
Thank you so much.
