War nightmare.
The war is heinous.
It is dry, destructive and evil.
War hell.
But it is also an incredible teacher,
A harsh teacher.
And teach you lessons you will not forget.
In war, you are forced
To see humanity in its ugliest forms,
You are also blessed
To see humanity in its finest moments.
War teaches you about grief, loss, and pain.
And teaches you the value of what is around you
How fragile human life.
In the midst of this fragility,
War teaches you about death.
But war also teaches you
For brotherhood and honor,
Humility and leadership.
Unfortunately, they often only learn when things go wrong.
For me,
One of the most influential lessons I learned from the war
Was in the spring of 2006
In the city of Ramadi, Iraq
Which was then the focus of the insurgency
Where the brutal and determined terrorists who ruled the streets
Torture, rape and murder.
In one of the neighborhoods of this city
During the process I was responsible for
Chaos broke out.
We had several combat units fighting the enemy on the battlefield.
We had Iraqi soldiers loyal to us,
And soldiers from the US military and US Marines,
In addition to my limited team of special naval forces.
Then the fog of war clouded
With its confusion, chaos, and harm,
And the accompanying shooting, and enemy attacks
Men’s screams, blood, and death;
In this fog of war,
Where a series of errors, human error
The shortcomings in the release of judgments, Murphy’s law, and only pure misfortune,
A fierce battle broke out.
But this gun battle
Were not between us and the enemy;
But, to the great sorrow,
It was between us and each other,
Friendly fire against friendly fire;
A brother kills his brother
Representing the sin of deadly fighting
And the most terrifying part of the war.
When the fighting ended and the fog of war cleared,
One of the Iraqi soldiers loyal to us was killed, two others were wounded,
One of my men was wounded
The rest of my men were in a severe shock,
It was a miracle that no one else was killed.
Senior leaders were informed of what happened.
We had fought, wounded, and killed each other.
When we returned to al-Qaeda, things did not improve much.
I was waiting for a message from the honorable officer,
Its content “canceled all operations.”
She also said that the supervisor,
The general commander, and the investigating officer
They have come to my site.
They told me to prepare an explanation to explain exactly what had happened in the process and what had happened.
You know what this means.
It meant that someone would pay the price.
It meant that one of them would be responsible for the incident.
It meant that one of them would be expelled for what happened.
So, I started preparing my interrogation.
And detailed in it all the mistakes and the cause of them.
I referred to every failure
In the planning, preparation, implementation process,
I referred to those responsible for these failures.
There was a lot of blame for his exchange.
I could have blamed several people.
But something was not true.
For some reason, I could not identify the wrong one
Or who should specifically blame him for what happened.
I sat down
I took the events back several times and struggled to find the answer.
Ten minutes before the interrogation began,
I received the answer,
It was a slap on my face.
I realized
That there is only one person to blame for that confusion,
Only one person should blame the injured men,
Only one person should be blamed for the dead Iraqi soldier.
I knew exactly who that person was.
So I went to the interrogation room with this answer,
The officer was supervisor
The Commander-in-Chief and the Investigation Officer
Sitting there waiting for me, in addition to the rest of my men,
Including the injured person,
Who was sitting at the end of the room
With bandages around his head and face.
I stood before them, and asked them one simple question,
“Wrong of this?”
One of my special forces men raised his hand.
“It was my fault.
I did not control the Iraqi soldiers under my command.
They left their specific sector,
That was the source of all the problems. “
I said, “No, it was not your fault.”
He raised another hand and said “It was my fault.
I did not move our site to others over the radio fast enough
They did not know which building we were in, which caused all this confusion.
So it was my fault. “
I said, “No, it was not your fault either.”
He lifted his third hand and said,
“It was my fault, O President.
I did not know my goal correctly
And killed and killed that loyal Iraqi soldier.
It was my fault. “
I said, “No, it was not your fault either.
Neither you nor you, nor you. “
I said this while I was referring to the rest of my men in the room.
Then I told them
That there is only one person to bear the guilt of what happened.
Only one person to blame.
This person is me.
I am the leader,
I am the most experienced man in the field of combat,
And responsible for everything that happens;
Everything.
Then I took to explain them
Some tactics, techniques, and new styles
Which we will implement
Let us ensure that this farce is not repeated again.
I’ll tell you something: it hurt me.
And a graffiti wound.
It was my fault myself to bear the blame.
But I also knew,
I knew that preserving my integrity as a leader and as a man,
He needed to take responsibility.
To do so,
I had to control my pride so that he would not control it.
And you learn?
I was not expelled.
In fact, the supervisor officer,
Who had expected excuses and exchanged accusations,
When I took responsibility and committed myself to it,
I became even more confident.
As that mens
They have not lost their respect for me.
But they realized
I will never escape responsibility,
And I will never give up
Heavy burden of leadership on their shoulders.
And you learn what?
They had the same tendency.
Unlike teams where no one is responsible for problems,
So these problems remain unresolved,
But what happened to us, that each of us take responsibility for his mistakes,
We are all responsible for the problems.
When the team is responsible for its problems,
They are resolved.
This also applies to the battlefield,
It applies to business and applies to all life.
So I tell you, take responsibility;
Take maximum responsibility.
Do not make excuses,
Do not touch anyone else or anything else.
Control your pride.
Do not prevent your fragile pride from facing the truth.
Take responsibility for everything in this world,
Good and bad.
Take responsibility for your mistakes, take responsibility for your shortfalls,
Take responsibility for your problems,
And then take responsibility for your solutions to these problems.
Take responsibility for the task entrusted to it.
Take responsibility for your job, your team, your future,
Take responsibility for your life.
The.
may.
You may yourself,
Your team, people in your life;
All of them
For victory.
thank you.
(clap)
