Chopping a bunch of fresh herbs – Jamie Oliver’s Home Cooking Skills

00:00:00next thing I’m going to show you is how

00:00:01to chop something like a herb nice and

00:00:06finely so parsley for example I’ll

00:00:09gather together oh that in a little pile

00:00:14take my chopping knife roll chop it

00:00:19keeping your fingers tightly up in a

00:00:21bunch tightly out of the way

00:00:35okay now this Parsley’s chopped but what

00:00:39do you do if you want it finer or the

00:00:42answer is that you cross chop it now

00:00:44what you do here is place the tip of the

00:00:47knife on the board just put it

00:00:48horizontally in front of you your

00:00:51fingers on the tip of the knife to keep

00:00:52it where it is and then chop up and down

00:00:56like that just a simple up and down like

00:01:00a guillotine and if you just chop it all

00:01:02with a surface here chop it over the

00:01:04parsley you might need to scoop it back

00:01:08into a pile 9 again you just keep going

00:01:12like that and the longer you go the

00:01:13finer your parsley gets and you stop

00:01:16when it’s as fine as you want it to be

00:01:18okay

00:01:19now this isn’t only just for homes you

00:01:22can cut anything fine about this you can

00:01:25cut meat or fish or onion or carrot or

00:01:28celery or anything you like

00:01:29if you chopped it and you’re not happy

00:01:31with how how fine it is you think you

00:01:33might want to chop it finer this is the

00:01:35answer just make sure to keep your

00:01:46fingers out the way the blade what you

00:01:48don’t do is curl them around like that

00:01:49keep them up out of the way because you

00:01:51don’t want them getting caught between

00:01:53the blade and the board and then you

00:02:01have finely chopped passing
