The Candy Cannon (Shoots Candy 100 feet!)

00:00:07here’s how you can become the coolest

00:00:09person on the block by building a device

00:00:11to make it rain candy

00:00:15[Music]

00:00:29I started this project with a trip to my

00:00:33home improvement store for these PVC

00:00:35parts I’m gonna get the hard stuff out

00:00:37of the way so I’ll measure different

00:00:39lengths of schedule 40 PVC pipe and

00:00:41start cutting I’m mainly using two-inch

00:00:43and one-inch pipe for the cannon and one

00:00:45and one-quarter inch pipe for the

00:00:46detonator a chop saw worked well for me

00:00:48but I had to be careful because

00:00:49sometimes things like that happen all

00:00:52the pipe is now cut to the lengths I

00:00:53want and before I glue the pieces in

00:00:55place permanently I’m gonna dry fit them

00:00:57all together to see how they fit my

00:00:59design is for two separate 12-inch air

00:01:01tanks joined together with one inch pipe

00:01:02and connecting to an inline sprinkler

00:01:04valve I’m also going to add a manual

00:01:06ball valve and an end cap that I’ll

00:01:08thread a pneumatic adapter on to later

00:01:10this 90 degree elbow will be my base for

00:01:12a two foot tube of 2-inch PVC pipe that

00:01:14will act as my cannon barrel it’s

00:01:16looking really good and I’m very happy

00:01:18with the design so it’s time to glue it

00:01:19up I’ll use some purple primer to get

00:01:21the PVC ready for gluing making sure to

00:01:23put a coating on all the parts that will

00:01:25be connected now I finished gluing it

00:01:26back together using PVC cement and I’m

00:01:29adding some threat tape to these

00:01:30connector nipples to ensure an airtight

00:01:31seal

00:01:32I expect this system will be pressure

00:01:34rise around 135 psi and this should help

00:01:36prevent leaks it’s time for a pressure

00:01:38test I’m gonna start around 60 psi and

00:01:41test for leaks then slowly work my way

00:01:43up over a hundred I’ve closed off the

00:01:44manual valve and disconnected the air

00:01:46hose and I don’t hear any air leaking so

00:01:48I’m gonna test the sprinkler valve

00:01:49release by shorting it out on this

00:01:519-volt battery it’s actually a 24 volt

00:01:53valve but a single 9-volt battery seems

00:01:55to work fine for this purpose and the

00:01:57valve works great so it’s time to wire

00:01:59up the detonator I’ll take the one in

00:02:01one quarter inch cap and drill a hole

00:02:02just big enough to insert a momentary

00:02:04switch and then I’ll drill a 1/8 hole in

00:02:06the bottom cap to feed my wire through

00:02:08this is doorbell wire and I’ll tie it in

00:02:10a knot to prevent it from pulling back

00:02:12through the cap again now I can add the

00:02:13one in one quarter inch by four inch

00:02:15pipe body to the base and then prep the

00:02:17wires for a good connection I’ll wire

00:02:19the momentary switch in series with the

00:02:21battery and sprinkler valve then give it

00:02:23a quick test to verify it’s all working

00:02:25correctly perfect it’s all working great

00:02:27so I’ll secure the switch and tuck the

00:02:29battery and wires into the detonator

00:02:30body now I’m wrapping the wire around

00:02:32some scrap one-inch pipe to give it a

00:02:34neat coiled look then I’ll get to work

00:02:36on a watt for the barrel this is the

00:02:38piece that will push the candy up and

00:02:39out and I’m going to

00:02:40these plastic cups I’ll cut the bottom

00:02:42quarter inch off the bigger Cup and then

00:02:44shave about a quarter inch from the top

00:02:45of a three ounce cup when joined

00:02:47together they make a perfect fit into

00:02:49the Tewa Jerell and when it’s time to

00:02:50load the candy I’ll push them to the

00:02:52bottom with makeshift ramrod these are

00:02:54super cheap and surprisingly durable but

00:02:56still gentle enough to convert this

00:02:58cannon into an epic water balloon

00:03:00launcher look for that in another video

00:03:02alright this system is looking pretty

00:03:03good but I want it to look amazing so

00:03:05I’ll clean off the UPC stickers with

00:03:07some adhesive remover and then spray

00:03:09painted red and black everything is back

00:03:11together and I’m really happy with how

00:03:12this is looking the daunting question

00:03:14now is will it work or was this all for

00:03:16nothing time to test it out the plastic

00:03:19cups are in place and I’m using these

00:03:20jelly candies for practice it’s ready to

00:03:22go in three two one fire

00:03:25amazing we shot up around a hundred feet

00:03:28in the air

00:03:29and completely covered the backyard

00:03:30making an exciting candy hunt for my

00:03:32kids and a hit novelty at the birthday

00:03:34party well I’ll call that an epic

00:03:36success if you liked this project

00:03:37perhaps you’ll like some of my others

00:03:39check them out at the king of random
