00:00:12deep in the woods of rural England
00:00:14former special-forces machine gunner Bob
00:00:17Podesta aims to find the truth about
00:00:19Maxim’s story by trying it for himself
00:00:29he will be assisted by Shawn Hindle also
00:00:32an X machine gunner in the British Army
00:00:35what do you reckon this looks like a
00:00:37good one yeah it’s got plenty of tension
00:00:39on it though huh why it’s hanging
00:00:43now all they need is a machine gun
00:00:49this is a 1916 Vickers gun a British
00:00:53Army variation on Hiram Maxim’s design
00:00:55built by his London business partners
00:00:58it’s capable of firing 450 rounds per
00:01:02minute but is that enough to top all the
00:01:05mighty Scots pine
00:01:12Podesta aims to maximize his chances
00:01:15with a methodical approach based on
00:01:18years of experience firing in short
00:01:28bursts is the army approved machine gun
00:01:30technique continuous fire could overheat
00:01:34and distort the barrel affecting
00:01:36accuracy but Podesta must be careful a
00:01:41rotating wheel in the firing mechanism
00:01:44could easily smash his knuckles he’s
00:01:55already weakened the right-hand side of
00:01:56the tree now can he take out the left
00:01:59and center every round is striking home
00:02:11the thumping recoil of the barrel is
00:02:14clearly visible at the muzzle Podesta
00:02:19ups the firing rate sensing victory
00:02:23[Applause]
00:02:32success and they fire just four hundred
00:02:36and seventy bullets the potential effect
00:02:39on any enemy is only too evident see
00:02:43some of the bullets are still stuck in
00:02:44the tree here yeah obviously what
00:02:47they’ve done they’ve they’ve gone
00:02:49through and they’ve tumbled tumbled as
00:02:52they’ve hit the tree after they’ve hit
00:02:53the tree yeah so you can imagine what
00:02:55it’s like when it hits a mag
